NOW WE KNOW
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. (Romans 8:28 NLT)
When we talk about looking forward to our full rights as God’s children and not having to hope for what we already have, (vs. 23 & 24) we sometimes feel like that it is only true for some people sometimes and we don’t know the time for sure. This is when we must remind ourselves that Jesus was the King of “now” and “today”. He was always saying now is the time, or today if you hear my voice.
So, now is always the time to put the truth to work for us. Unfortunately, I think we are all guilty of failing to consider where God is in the scheme of our lives until things are not going so well. The truth is that God is working in our lives all the time. Therefore it is wise on our part to recognize His presence when things are smooth and thank Him for each and every smooth moment of every day. Remember, our greatest need is His presence and being aware of His presence. Continually acknowledging his work in our lives is to our great advantage.
Imagine if you were with someone and they acted like you did not exist. Imagine going with them the whole day opening doors for them, providing for them, and do things that they never even thought of, but still they never spoke to you or of you to anyone all day. It would not take long for you or I to find something else to do. Now imagine how you would feel if that person all of a sudden blamed something bad happening on you because you decided to quit following them around.
Fortunately for us, God is not like us and He does not desert us. However, sometimes because we do not keep Him in His primary place in our lives, we forget that He is working for our good all the time. We forget that we have rights as His children. We also forget that there is an adversary that makes the bad plans for us and we forget that God has good plans for us. So instead of fighting the good fight of faith and accusing the one that we should be accusing (the devil), we start wondering what happened to God why He is allowing or worse yet, doing bad things to us. You already know this, but I will say it again. “God is good and the devil is bad.”
So when should we draw on our full rights and His children? When should we declare that God is working for our good? When should we be talking with God and acknowledging His work in lives? The answer to all of these is now! When should we declare that God is good? All the time!
No one but Jesus ever walked in all the freedom of the full rights of God’s children. He was and is our example. He had the freedom to do anything and the freedom to fear nothing. He was free to invite thousands to lunch without fear of how he would feed them. He was free to stop a funeral procession and raise a dead child back to life without fear of failure. And don’t forget who He bound and cast out when things were not going God’s way. I realize that these are huge steps, but they are out there waiting for us. When would you like to start experiencing your full rights?
