NOW WHAT
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. (Eph.5: 17
There comes a time in our Christian walk where we just need to get on with it. We need to stop settling for less and dig into what it is that God has in mind for us. As this scripture admonishes, “don’t be unwise, find out what God wants.” In response to this sort of statement there is often the question of, “how do we do that?”
Getting this done starts with our personal desire to know what God wants more than anything else. As I have mentioned, we need to mine for the treasures that God has for us. The way we dig will vary; the important thing is that we do. Personally, I will use just about anything as an opportunity for God to teach me something. Often times, what seems like the longest shot will produce the most valuable finds.
For instance, I woke up in the night every hour. I did not thing much of it at 1:17, except I really wanted to go back to sleep. At 2:17 I thought it was a little ridiculous to be waking up every hour. At 3:17 I said, “God is there something I can learn from this?” The word that came to mind was, “mining!” Well, 4:17, 5:17, and 6:17 came and sure enough I was awake on the minute. At this point I determined that whether there was anything there or not, I was going to dig!
Since the Lord had been teaching me from Ephesians, I went to the 17th verse of each chapter in Ephesians and I discovered a treasure! I found the treasure because I was looking for it. I found it because there is nothing that gives me more joy than to understand what the will of the Lord is. I know that the only way I will come to the perfect measure of the fullness of Christ is if I will seek Him.
There is no “one way” that is the perfect mining technique, and just like in mining in the natural, there are always new methods being developed. The great thing is that God has arranged it in such a way that as long as you mine, you will find treasure. As long as we seek we will find. As long as we knock, doors will be opened. And as long as we ask, we will receive. God will fulfill the desires of our hearts.
If we want the knowledge of Him, He is more that happy to give it. He is not withholding information in an attempt to keep people in the dark. Jesus came and preached peace because He is our peace. Understanding gives us peace. It is through His dwelling in us that we can be rooted and grounded in love, and His love is the most powerful force of all.
Because of this we quit walking like we did before we knew Him and we start walking in His light. As we walk in His light, we come to know the truth and of course the truth sets us free to find more truth. Consequently, we are no longer unwise because we understand what the will of the Lord is. We have our helmet of salvation and the word of God and no weapon formed against us can prosper. That is a treasure from the 17’s of Ephesians.
