OFFENSIVE CHRISTIANITY

And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul's message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. (Acts 17:11 NLT)

This week the Lord spoke these two words to me in the night; offensive Christianity. I had been thinking about lots of different things, but these two words made all of those thoughts come together, so I began to look at taking it to the streets so to speak. We must understand the favor and faithfulness of God before we can have the confidence to present Him in a way that reveals His character. Of course we should speak of Him fondly no matter what, but once we know Him we should be like Paul who could not help himself; He had to share the good news. We cannot keep this to ourselves.
When I speak of offensive Christianity, I am not speaking of going out and intentionally offending people, but we should not be surprised if it does offend, because it is offensive to some. I am talking about going for the score. We may need to defend the gospel, and well we should, but going for the victory against the wiles of the devil is what we want.
Jesus said that those who were not offended by Him would be blessed. He also said go into the entire world and do what you have seen me do. We should do that and expect the same results. If we do not expect results, we are in a sense offended by that idea. Honestly if we don’t think it works, we must not really believe it! Now don’t get offended.
This scripture is a good one to begin our look into offensive Christianity because I think the Berean’s had the right attitude. They were searching to see if it was true not to prove it was not true. Far too often people are guilty of trying to disprove parts of the truth they do not like, rather than that finding a way to make it work.
I have learned how to do many things watching YouTube videos. When I need to learn how to do something, I watch to see how, not to prove that it cannot be done. It occurs to me that this is a good way to look at God’s Word.
We are told that His word is for our instruction. Jesus tells to follow His example. We see what the Apostles and other followers did. Why in the world do people then try and use the Word of God to prove that the Word of God quit doing what He said it would do. We want salvation and heaven. The same word that guarantees those things challenges us to do the other things.
There is a lot of effort that goes into research in this world to cure diseases. Let’s take the gospel on the offense and heal the sick, cast out the devil, deliver the captives. More to come as the Lord passes it on. Go ahead and get started.
