OH THE HOPE

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ for the dead. Now we live with great expectation (1Pet. 1:3)

Our hope is limited only by our expectations. So, what are our expectations? In the natural, we expect certain things whether they are realistic or not. It is obvious that a child should be cared for but there comes a time when we need to grow up and work and support ourselves.
While all around us, people are clamoring for someone else to take care of them, many of these same people think it is foolish to put our trust in God. Well, social programs can wither and dry up, but the Word of God will go on forever. It is Biblical to offer a hand up, but it is also biblical that those who won’t work should not eat. That is just a thought. Let’s move on.
First, let’s consider where our praise is focused. All praise to God! Just considering that causes me to pause and smile and consider whether or not I have been doing that. For fires, children are taught to stop, drop, and roll. We have all kinds of fires that take place in life. These fires can have many names, but stopping and praising and praying in the face of them is a life saver. I will be honest and say I need to be quicker to drop as though my life depended on it. Sometimes I get singed a bit.
If we are committed to the truth, praising God makes perfect sense in every circumstance. If we are committed to the truth of His great mercy and that it is only by His mercy that we have been granted a new life, we can certainly praise God for that alone at any and all times.
Recently I was visiting with a person that had encountered a sickness and came through in great shape and this person was very thankful and very open about how fortunate he was. It was obvious that his whole perceptive of life was changed by that victory.
As I think of that I realize that my whole perspective on life changed when I met Jesus. I too was delivered into a new life. I need to be just as enthusiastic about how He rescued me. We all do. How committed are we to that truth? How aware are we of the depth of that truth?
Peter said that is why we live with such great expectations! Peter walked with Jesus and talked with Jesus and saw all that Jesus did. He expected Jesus to the do what Jesus did, but when Jesus died on that cross, none of them had any idea what to do. When Jesus came to see them they all hoped He would stay, but He went away and left them instructions to go and do what they had observed Him doing. He told them to go and wait until they received power. They had no idea what that meant, but they went. Because they received power, we can expect to receive power. Because they lived in great expectation, we should too. Remember, our hope in is Christ and He cannot fail. In Christ, we can do all things.
