ONE WAY ONLY
"Abba, Father," he cried out, "everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine." (Mark 14:36 NLT)
There has always been only one way, and that is God’s way, because it is the only way to God’s blessings and promises. You can come from the north, south, east, or west, but you will come through Jesus or you will not arrive at the blessing of God.
If God were going to change His plan, this would have been the place to do it. If there were any other way, this would have been the place to open that door. Jesus wanted what was best, and that was why He wanted the father’s will to be done. It was the only way that would work and it still is.
We can say what we want and believe what we want, but if what we say and what we believe is not His way, we will miss His promises.
Jesus said that He calls us friends if we are his followers. I was thinking that I am not only a friend, but I am a fan. I am a fan of God and I want to be a great fan and a great friend. Not great in any eyes other than His, but great in His eyes. Great friends receive great benefits.
I do not want to be an acquaintance of God. I do not want to be a name dropper. I want to know Him in a way that assures me that when I call He answers. David called on God in Psalm 35 to oppose those who opposed him, and to hear God say, “I will give you victory.” That sounds like someone who knew what a friend he had.
I sang what a friend we have in Jesus for years before I knew I had a friend in Jesus. There is only one way for that to happen.
If you have ever driven down a one way the wrong way, you know it is not the greatest feeling. Even if no one is coming from the other direction, you know you are going the wrong way. If you are around a lot of those streets, you may become comfortable just saving yourself a little time and turning down those streets, but you also might get caught. If you do, you will wish you would have just taken the extra minute to go the right way.
The consequences of choosing your own way on a one way are not nearly as significant as trying to choose your own way to God or rejecting God all together. He said that Jesus was the way. Jesus said that He is the way the truth and the life. He promised the blessings of God to those who would follow Him. If there was another way, He would have told us.
We are free to choose. If we want what God has promised, we must follow God’s plan. It is as simple as that. In all things, I want to choose His way.
