ONLY THE BEGINNING

The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach... (Acts 1:1 NKJ)

There are times when the light of the scriptures comes on that I wonder how I missed it for so long. But then I am reminded that God has perfect timing. There are things that I have known that I realize I barely understood at all. But then suddenly it gets so clear that I cannot keep up with everything that is revealed. It truly is like lines of dominos falling in pattern or a puzzle putting itself together. God is so good.

Have you ever wondered how many people were left wishing they had gone to see and hear Jesus after they heard of His crucifixion? How many sick in body and heart were left sick and weak and wondering if Jesus would have done for them what they heard He had done for others. I think there were lots of folks in that group.

Thinking about this, I could see why Jesus followers attracted such crowds after receiving the power of the Holy Spirit. I could see them coming to town and declaring, “It is not over. It was only the beginning.” “Jesus has called all of us to continue the revelation of the Kingdom of God and you are welcome to take part and be a part if you want.”

Now all of those people who missed Jesus in person had the opportunity to receive the same Jesus by faith, and multitudes did. They were convinced because they saw the demonstrations of God’s power which confirmed the Word that was spoken.

Over the centuries, the power of God has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It is the message of the messengers that changes. God confirms His Word. He watches over His Word to perform it. And His Word is that it’s not over yet. People are experiencing new beginnings every day. God’s Word is still powerful and able to do abundantly more than we can hope or imagine.

Of course we know that Jesus followers experienced resistance and great persecution, but that did not stop the power of God. The same is true today. There is resistance. There is persecution. There is a multitude of things advertising everything that exalts itself against the glory of God. These very things will ultimately open people’s eyes to their need for the Kingdom of God.

That is why it is important that there be a multitude of people like you and me who realize that the Kingdom of God is not old news. The Kingdom of God is fresh, desirable, and available for all who will believe. Just imagine the disciples coming into town and saying, “It’s not over. Jesus is still healing, teaching, and providing.” Imagine the crowds mocking and then suddenly they see the miracles and find out that they are called to go and do the same thing. Well folks. We are them. When we answer that call, it is only the beginning. I feel like I am in the starting blocks for a new race. Are you ready? There are blocks set up for everyone! Go!
