OPEN TO HIM
"...you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately." (Luke12:36 NKJ)
I heard someone say recently that what the world needs is an awakening to God, and I totally agree. No matter how awake we may think we are, we all have some sleepiness in us that needs to be shaken off. If we get the idea that we are totally awake and know everything that there is to know, we are in fact on the verge of being dangerous. We all have some things to learn.
In this passage of scripture Jesus is teaching about the Kingdom of God. He told them about where to lay up their treasures and that they should be rich toward God. Wow that is a thought to ponder. He then went into His teaching about not worrying about all the things that everyone else worries about. How many of us have that totally under control? He finished that by telling us to seek the Kingdom of God and everything else would be added to us because it is the Father’s good pleasure to give us the Kingdom.
Peter once asked what sort of people we should be when we consider the times. That question of course was not limited only to the time when He wrote it. I cannot say if it is more applicable today or not, but it is most certainly something we all need to consider.
I believe Jesus gave us a very clear picture of how to best live our lives. He said that we should be like servants waiting for the master of the house to come home. A good servant is watching and opens the door immediately. The key to life is to be open to Him.
If we are open to Him, there is no door that will not open, because it is His good pleasure to give us the key. There is no temptation that is too great because if we are open to Him He will show us the way out. There is no fear that is beyond His ability to comfort. There is no lack that is beyond His ability to supply.
Why is it so difficult to just be open to Him? Why do we resist? Why do we refuse to trust Him? Do we even realize when we are failing to trust Him? What can we do? One thing we can do is move beyond calling Him Lord and make Him Lord of our lives.
We decide whether or not we will be open to Him. We determine what we will or will not treasure. He is a good master and worthy to be watched for and welcomed on the scene at any and all times. Blessed are those who Lord finds waiting and open to Him. Open up!
