OUR FATHER

"When you pray say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name."(Luke 11:2 NKJ)

We all agree that Jesus had good reason for every word that He spoke. After all, He did say that He only relayed to us what the Father gave to Him. (Wouldn’t we all like to get to that place in our walk with God?) God impressed some things on me this morning when I curled up next to Him and said, “I love you Father.” Right after I said that, I thought of the prayer that Jesus taught us all to pray. “Our Father which art in heaven…”

First and foremost, He is our Father. He wants us to look at Him as a perfect father. He is a more perfect father than any of us could imagine. A perfect father loves his children. No child is turned away, and no child is loved more than any other. God is our father. For each of us then, we have the opportunity to develop our personal relationship with God. He does not change. He is a father to all who call upon Him. He is also a potential father to those who have not called. He is always ready to adopt anyone who wants Him.

I am reminded then, that the depth of my relationship with Him is dependent upon me. Once I am in the family, He is my father and He loves me. He also loves all His other children. If I see one who seems to be doing better than me, then I need to see what they are doing. In the same sense, if one is not doing as well as I am, then I need to see if I can help them get closer to “Our Father.” Yes, that is the key for everyone. The closer we are to Our Father, the better things are.

Sometimes you see people who seem to resent one of God’s children. This can be the case if one is doing better than another, just as much if one is doing worse than another. Look at the prodigal son. He went to his father and got his inheritance. Sad to say, he squandered it, but all the same he went to his father. His brother stayed right with his father, but never bothered to develop the kind of relationship that he could have had with him. In fact, there must have been a considerable amount of resentment even before the wayward brother came home. Whose fault was it that the son who stayed home did not enjoy his life? His father was more that willing to meet his every need, but the older brother did not bother to take the opportunity.

Watch little children, they will show you how to get close to the Father. If one child has something, it does bother another child a bit to go their parents and ask for it. If I do something for one of my children, it is not long until another one is coming and wanting something too. They know that it is only fair for them to have what their brother or sister has. On the other hand, if they just get jealous over the other getting something, and instead of coming to me they go off somewhere and pout, whose fault is it when they miss out.

So God is my Father, and He is your Father. He is our Father. We should be blessed when we see one of God’s children blessed, and we should be close enough to our Father too feel free to say, “Me too Lord.” This is true of health, peace, provision, protection, direction, or any other thing we may need. We are His children. If we are not, we can be by calling on the Name of Jesus. There is no excuse for resenting a relationship that another might have, and there is no need to covet someone else’s when we can have our own. We need only to obey God and come to Him, believe Him, cast our cares on Him, and receive from Him. Our Father is a great father. Let’s find out just how great He is.
