So many times I think Christians give up before they get started contributing because the ask themselves “what can I do?” and the enemy immediately tells them that they can’t do anything. But the truth is that we all are an important part of the body of Christ, and we must all do our share.

No one but God can really tell you what your share is, so He is the one that you must seek to find out what He wants. He may or may not tell you directly all the time, but He will most certainly clearly guide anyone who is really sincere in seeking to do his or her part.

This passage in Ephesians begins with directions as to why God gives Apostles, prophets and etc. to the church. It is so that we can all be built up and equipped to minister. If you love Jesus you have the most important ministry tool ready and waiting to be put into service. You have the joy that comes from knowing Him and you should let that shine everywhere you go.

As we grow in the Lord and allow the Spirit to guide us, all we need to do is be obedient and we will naturally do our share. The more we grow up, the more our share will increase.

The truth is that many people are doing their share and they don’t even know it. There are also others who do not bother to seek and to grow and so they are not doing their share and if everyone does not do their share things do not work the way God wants them to.

I just returned from a conference where many wonderful things were poured into my life, but the thing that the Lord most impressed on my heart was the need to help people to realize that every person has an important part to play in the body of Christ, and encourage everyone to seek the Lord for wisdom so that they do their share.

Most of the time if someone realizes that they can be of help, then they want to help. But so often people fail to help because they don’t see their contribution as important. I have heard people say that about all they can do is pray. Wow, what an important part that is. How can we possibly think that is not much of a contribution?

People get fooled into thinking that it is only the things that are done up front that count. The truth is that nothing would get done up front if someone didn’t pray. Our share may be to smile and encourage people. It could be to hold a busy mother’s child, or clean up a spill. It could be a phone call of encouragement or it could be a gift of cash to a needy brother or sister.

The importance is not so much in what we do, but rather in the fact that we do what God has called us to do. Many people are busy trying to do or be something that is not even what God wants, while they neglect what God has really equipped them to do.

So Lord, show us what our share is. Help us to grow up into what Christ has fit us together to do and to be. Help us all to realize the importance of each one doing our share.
