OVERNIGHT
That night the angel of the Lord went out to the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers… (2 kings 19:35 NLT)
Before anything, I simply want to say how grateful I am to God for His goodness and Love. In the night I thought of all the forgiveness I have experienced and all the burdens He has lifted. We were not built to carry burdens. Jesus bore them all. When we bear one another’s burdens, we are helping each other to take them to God because He can handle them.
The verse today is a culmination of a burden that Hezekiah took to the Lord. Things were terrible and looking hopeless, but Hezekiah took the problem to the Lord. And overnight, the problem disappeared.
Oh, how we all wish that it was always that simple. The truth is it can be. The truth is also that we seldom expect it to be. It takes a commitment to trusting God to see the results that trusting God produces.
Whether anything changes or not, we can be sure that God does not change. We can end each day trusting Him and start the next day the same way! We can know that He has heard us and trust that He is working on it.
If you were to have a house being constructed, you would trust that the builders were building! Of course, you would check in, but mostly you would be looking forward to moving in. You would be telling your friends about how it was going and planning a time when you could invite people over to see the finished result. You might ask close friends for ideas. If there is a delay, you might ask someone to pray with you for the success of the project! Do you see what I am suggesting?
We can trust that the Lord will do what He has promised. He has promised to hear our prayers and bring things to pass. So, in a way, when we trust the Lord, it is an overnight success. Each day that passes and you keep passing the care to God, you have experienced success. Success feels good!
This in turn produces thankfulness. God loves a thankful heart. So, give Him thanks often. Look forward to His completed projects, remembering that He is able to do abundantly more than you can hope or imagine.
Hezekiah had no idea what God was going to do! God’s solution may seem to be a bit much, but he had His reasons. He wanted everyone to know and to honor Him as the one true God. If we honor Him as the one true God, we can be sure that He is working things in our favor.
Refuse to let go of the truth of God’s promises. What He says He will do, He will do. The enemy wants to rob us and so He lies to us and unfortunately, we often expect failure instead of success. When it looks the worst, we expect the worst! Oh, we hope it will be ok, but we seriously doubt it. That would be what James called being double minded. Each day, look for joy in the morning! It always comes overnight!
