PARTAKE
We have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence...(Heb.3:14)
Are you a partaker? Before I was saved, I am ashamed to say that I partook of, well let’s just say that I partook of lot I should not have. Then when I at last attended a Bible study that God used to open my eyes, I partook of the salvation that Christ offered. It was wonderful the way that Christ changed my life. I thought at times that I must be going crazy, things were changing so fast.
I read the Bible till my eyes hurt. I prayed and fasted and listened to tapes, and watched teachings. I thought that it could not get any better. In fact, I thought people who wanted or expected anything more from God were just plain ungrateful. Then one day Vikki was having a problem in a pregnancy and a pastor anointed her with oil and prayed. Suddenly we became partakers of healing. That wasn’t bad at all! Another day in prayer, I began to pray in languages I did not know, and I became a seeker and partaker of spiritual gifts. Someone sent us a letter with cash in it, and we became partakers of God’s provision. Our son looked as though he fell down the steps, and then suddenly he came right back into sight, and we became partakers of God’s protection. And on and on and on the list goes.
These things just happened you say. Well, in a way that is true. But God has always gone about revealing Himself to people, so that people would partake. I think that many people do not realize that they can be partakers. Truly, God protects and provides for people all the time. And most everyone is very glad when He does. But a lot people do not understand that God plans to do it all the time. So they think it was nice that something nice happened this one time, and maybe God will do something nice again when He has time. What makes us partakers, is when we realize that God is able and then we begin to call upon Him to be God to us in every area of our lives. When we partake of salvation, we don’t plan on it being a one day thing do we? No, we expect it to be eternal. Then why shouldn’t God’s provision, protection, direction, deliverance, and everything else be the same.
As the Amplified Bible says in Hebrews 3:14, We have become fellows with Christ(the Messiah)and share in all He has for us, if only we hold our first newborn confidence and original assured expectation[in virtue of which we are believers]firm and unshaken to the end. We had to be seeking in order to partake of salvation. We may not have realized what we were seeking, but we were all looking for something when we met Jesus. Once we realized that true life was available, we had to partake of it. We had to act. When we did, God responded.
The same is true with every promise of God. We seek, we find, we partake. So we should ask ourselves if we are partaking as God intends. If not, may this encourage us to get started. The table is set. Come and dine.
