PEACE PRACTICE

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. (Matt. 5:9)

There is no way to make anyone else peaceful, but we can secure peace for ourselves. Once we have it, we can help others, but even then, it is their choice. According to God’s Word it surely is worth the effort to work for peace. Every Christian should desire to be called a child of God and receive the benefits that accompany such a family relationship.

We all know that peace can require a lot of work, but the more we practice it, the more natural it becomes. We may be required to speak peace to ourselves with clenched with fists from time to time, but if we will seek that peace and run after it, we will achieve it.

Anytime we practice the fruit of the Spirit, the result will be a revelation of God. Verse 8 says that those who are pure of heart will see God. The righteousness of God is revealed in the fruit of the Spirit and that is why it is so important that practice those things that will produce God’s presence.

As we said, we cannot force peace on anyone except ourselves. We can attempt to be an instrument of peace, but we should know that true peace can come only from God. People can agree to things on the surface, while inside they have no intention of accepting the terms. Will we accept God’s terms?

So, what can we do? We can practice peace! We can perfect peace in our own lives. We can become so good at making peace that the peace of God affects the very atmosphere around us. Others can sense that peace and then they choose whether or not to incorporate it into their lives. It will not be automatic for them either; it will require practice on their part to keep it.

Jesus said that He was leaving His peace with us. He was not offering a momentary comfort. His peace is ours to keep. We have the choice of how much value we place on what He gives us. If we value His peace we will guard it. We will practice it so that it does not become inactive in our lives.

As we mentioned, we cannot make anyone but ourselves peaceful. Just in case you do not already know this, God cannot make us peaceful either. It is our choice. The peace is on the table for us to pick up, but if we are honest, we are not always interested in practicing peace. Sometimes we would rather practice anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness! That is why it is so important that we set our hearts on the peace of God.

After all, Gods’ peace produces a lack of lack! It is a pathway to His rest. It is worth working for. It is something we should all become proficient at producing in our lives. The Holy Spirit holds peace out for us to take. God is manifested when we practice His peace. God receives glory when we choose His way. The enemy hates peace, so let’s all work to make him miserable as we magnify the Peace of God.
