PEACE TO YOU

Then Jesus said to them again, Peace to you! (John 20:21 NKJ)

How often do you experience a sense of perfect well being and the presence of all necessary good? This is in fact part of the peace Jesus offered them that day. His peace also provided spiritual prosperity, freedom from fears, agitating passions and moral conflicts. Jesus was not there to tell them they ought to have these things; He was there to tell them that these were theirs in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.

The truth is that we all possess all of these things and so much more through the grace of God. The reason that we often do not experience it is because we do not see that they were given to us by Jesus at the same time they were given to the disciples.

We are often more inclined to declare that we cannot find peace in our times of trouble than we are to acknowledge that it has already been provided for us in unlimited measure through Christ and His resurrection. Honestly I think we are also guilty of fighting against the peace of God so we can have our own way.

Three different times Jesus appeared to them in the first eight days after His resurrection, and each time He gave them peace. Here they were hiding in fear, and He is telling them to receive a sense of perfect well being and to be confident that everything was good. They were feeling spiritually bankrupt and He was telling them they were more spiritually prosperous than ever. They were bombarded with fear, agitating passions and moral conflicts, and He gave them the ticket to freedom from them all.

This was how Jesus lived. This was how He walked. This was how He did all that He did. Now He came to them and gave them the same peace. Remember, earlier He had told them that He was giving His peace to them and that it would not be a temporary peace that He would take back, but He would leave it with them; well He not only gave that to them but added that He was sending them out with it just like He had gone out with it.

This same peace is ours to do with what we want. The Lord really desires that we walk in it. He knows that there times when we will have to seek peace and pursue it. In other words, there will be times when it is the last thing we feel like manifesting but deep down we know that it is the only thing that will set us free. We all want peace, but in order to have it sometimes we may need to lay down something that our flesh desires. We may have to give up our way. We may need to just get over something. We may need to cast and cast and cast a care on God to finally walk in that peace.

The bottom line is that we must be willing to do whatever is necessary to get the peace that is ours. When we have that peace, then we can give that peace. Jesus really did bring peace to the heavy hearted and the needy. Of course He also noted that He would cause division occasionally. His peace can cause a lot of turmoil within our lives as it separates us from our old self. It also causes turmoil around us as changes take place. Jesus knew this and warned us about it. But still, His peace that passes all understanding has the power to transform lives and this is the peace that He gives us and sends us out with. Peace to you.
