PENTECOST

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. (Acts 2:1 ERV)

Do you ever wonder just exactly what you are waiting for? As a rule, if we are waiting we have an idea of what we are waiting for, but these folks were just waiting because Jesus told them to wait. They did know that He had mentioned being filled with power from on high. They had observed what God did through Him. Some of them had even experienced the flow of God’s power themselves.
Still, they were probably wondering how they could go on without Jesus. He was life to them. He was hope and help to them. Now what? For 40 days Jesus popped in and out, then ten days before today He simply told them to go and wait and to continue what He had taught them. Then off He went up in the clouds with them watching.
Ten days is not such a long time is it? Imagine what their conversations were like. Imagine what they were feeling. They had no idea what to expect, or even if anything was ever going to happen. Yes ten days is a long time! We do not like to wait five minutes! When He came, He was supposed to lead them into all truth. He was supposed to make everything better, but the first thing He did was stir up trouble. They were accused of being drunk, but then 3000 were added to the family, so it turned out pretty good.
It is amazing the way the Holy Spirit does what He does. Have you experienced things going bad, only to feel like you were doing better? I have. I have found that at the very worst moments in my life with Christ, that He somehow made my faith stronger. That is after all, why He came, but to be honest I cannot figure out how He does what He does. I do know that He came so that we could live for Jesus.
Second Corinthians chapter 5 tells us that Jesus came to give us new life so we could live for Him. We need power to do that and the Holy Spirit came with that for us, so that we could be ambassadors for Christ; so that we could show that it was not impossible to keep the power of God active in this world.
He came to fill the God space in our hearts. We need to always have space for His revelation and transformation. If we allow it, the Holy Spirit will always make space and fill space. We know what we are waiting for so waiting should not be a problem. We know that He is faithful. We know that He cannot lie. We know that His promises are true. We know that He works all things together for the good of those who love Him. We know because we trust. We can be sure because He promised. Make space in your heart for God. My computer frequently tells me I am short of memory and that I need to close out things that are wasting it. Sounds like good advice to make space for God. Delete everything that dilutes your faith. Hit the button and make space.
