PEOPLE THE LORD HAS BLESSED
Their descendants will be known and honored among the nations. Everyone will realize that they are a people the Lord has blessed. (Isaiah 61:9 NLT)
There is a chorus that says, “I am blessed, I am blessed. Every day that I live I am blessed.” As I read in Isaiah today that chorus kept coming to my mind, and as I thought about it I realized that since the day I came to know God I truly have been blessed. I don’t mean that I have been blessed because the Word of God says so and I have been blessed whether I feel like it or not. I have truly felt blessed everyday.
In the worst of circumstances, and in the midst of what could be considered great trials, I have never once felt like I was not blessed. I have never felt like the Lord deserted me. I never felt as though He was mad at me or that He was putting bad things on me in order to make me strong. I have always been convinced that it was the enemy who was out to destroy me, but that God would not allow that to happen.
I am so thankful that God has always been faithful. He has been true to His promise that He is faithful even when I am not. Truly the Lord is good and His mercy endures forever. So you are probably wondering if I am just writing to brag how God has blessed me. No I am writing it brag about how good God is and to say that He is just as faithful to everyone else as He is to me. I think the difference is in how we perceive what God is doing in our lives.
I am also writing this to say that there was one low point in meditating on being blessed by God. The Holy Spirit reminded that God has not only promised to bless us, but also to make us a blessing. And at that I became very convicted because I know that God has always been faithful to bless me, but I also know that I am not always faithful to be a blessing. He has empowered me to be a blessing. I do desire to be a blessing and at times through Christ I have succeeded. But the truth is, I have spent more time receiving His blessing that I have spent spreading His blessing. Now obviously no one can keep up with God when it comes to blessing, but I am certain that I can do better if only I will concentrate my efforts on what God has called all of us to do and to be.
Remember, God does not reveal His Word in order to condemn us. He gives wisdom to help us. As you read this if you are feeling like you have failed to appreciate all of God’s blessings and that you could be more of a blessing in your home, in your work, or where ever you may go in the course of each day, then with God’s help you will be.
This has caused me to realize that I need to be as quick to look for a way that I can be a blessing at all times, as I am to look for the blessing and favor of God in all things. I always know that God is there for me, now I need to seek how I can always be a light for Him. Pray for me that I will walk in this. I will do the same for all of you. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
