PERCEPTION REFLECTION
Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to Him than they are? (Matthew 6:26)
Faith, confidence, hope, and trust grow as we learn to take God at His word. Jesus said we should look at the birds. For people who like birds it is easy to do. If you don’t like birds you may not be willing to catch what God wants to say to you. That is why it is important to look for what God is saying without running it through our filter or preference.
For instance one person might think about birds and rather than looking at the ones in the air healthy and flying they might focus on the fact there are dead ones under the feeder and conclude that “God does not take care of all of them so how can I be sure He will take care of me.”
On the other hand it might just clear things up for another person who thinks “yes the birds just enjoy their lives and fly around while God takes care of them.”
The main thing to consider is do we believe that we are more valuable to God than the birds? God values you highly. I believe this was the major point Jesus was making. He wants us to understand that we do not need to worry. Actually He was telling us not worry. He was and is telling us to trust God.
We are saved and blessed by and through the grace of God. That should make us thankful and not give us sense of entitlement. God promises us everything but He does not owe us anything. We never have any good reason to complain about how God does things. We are told to speak to mountains. We are told to cast out demons. However, when we come before God, we told to humble ourselves and praise and give Him thanks.
No one can command God to do anything. He is God. We need to keep who He is and who we are in proper perspective. The things of this world are pretty much guaranteed to disappoint us, but God has promised that He will not. So don’t blame God. Praise God. Look what the Lord has done and be encouraged. There are more birds flying than dying.
Yes, God has promised us all things and yet He owes us nothing. All He asks is that we trust Him and everything thing will be taken care of. Unfortunately it may not go the way we want! Will we trust and praise and honor God even when we cannot fully understand?
Are we willing to dream about the greatness of God and not be defeated by the evil of the world? How can God let things go on that go on? We are not the first to wonder about such things. We see many posing that same question in the Bible and it always boils down to “Yet I will praise the Lord. How do you see things? I really want to see all things perfectly. The truth is the birds have it pretty good so we should not worry.
