PERFECT TIMING
Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased. (Luke 2:14)
God has perfect timing. God has perfect timing. God has perfect timing. There are times when we need remind ourselves over and over again that God knows what He is doing.
When we talked about how God reset things and saw the benefit of the reset for our own lives we once again were reminded just how good God is. At the same time, there are times we really have to shake our heads at the timing.
He said in Genesis that He was going to reset things but what was He thinking taking so long? Finally after a few thousand years God repeats his promise of a reset and this time He clarifies that He is sending a savior the Messiah who will take away their sins. After all those years of sacrifices this was good news. It took them this long to see that they were failing miserably at accomplishing anything themselves!
How long does it take us to figure out that we are not getting it done on our own? How long does it take us to even see that we have a need for a savior?
Back to the timing thing; it took another 600 or so years for Him to show up. We know it had to be good timing but still that is a long time. Then after all the years of waiting of course Jesus did not look like a savior. He was a baby. But we are not looking at that this week, we are looking at timing.
Sometimes in the timing, we just cannot see what can possibly be perfect about it. In fact, sometimes the timing, in our mind, is absolutely ridiculous. Some things just should not happen at all. But, things do happen because we live in a world where anything can happen.
Just because things happen does not mean that God did them nor does it mean God wanted them to happen. However, God has given us everything we need in order to handle whatever happens. He gives those things at just the right time. Sometimes we receive those things and sometimes we reject them, but all the same they were there.
Many years ago our fourth son, Josiah, died in my arms. It was not supposed to happen. We had prayed and it looked like everything was turning out great but then it wasn’t. Suddenly, peace that passed all understanding was right there. He was there! And His timing was perfect. The situation was a train wreck, but He was perfect. I will never know or understand how He does some things, nor will I know this side of eternity His understanding of timing. So I will hold on to the truth that His ways and His timing are perfect even in imperfect circumstances.
We can be sure He is with us and that He knows what He is doing. His timing is perfect!
