PERFECTION

"I in them and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me." (John 17:23 NKJV)

Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together and everything just works perfectly? Everyone has had this experience on at least one occasion. As a child I remember when they had those triangles and circles etc. that would go together and come apart if you got them in just the right position. It was a great feeling of accomplishment once I managed to get it just right. Later generations had things like the Rubik Cube, which I quit on early in my attempts. Then came video games and there are lots of other examples, but the point here is that when you get it right it is a good thing.

I think we can all agree that we like it when things fall into place! Recently I was telling God how wonderful He is and considering what it must be like to always do everything right. He said that I should tell Him what it feels like. My first response of course was that unlike Him, I do not always get it all right. But then He brought to mind the fact that we all have moments when we do get it right, and even before I knew Him I certainly did enjoy it when a shot went in the hoop, or a block or tackle or a touchdown occurred in a game. It feels good to know someone is pleased and that you have done the right thing.

In our walk with God, we are more likely to see how we fail than how we succeed. We are more likely to see ourselves as worms that than as sons. We can think of one hundred reasons why God should not; or at least might not answer our prayers. We literally prepare for failure more that we do for favor.

No, we are not yet perfect in every way, but we are being perfected because Jesus prayed that we would be made perfect in one.

When I asked God about this, He told me that the key was to allow Him to dwell in me richly. So my question was how do I do that? I know lots of religious answers to that. I know about the living word of God and drawing near to God. I know that He is the way, truth, and life. I know all of this but I am not yet there. How do I shut me off and turn Him on. I know it is no longer I who live, but I also know that I do not always run like a fine tuned Jesus engine. So how do I become a river that God flows through? His response was, “Prefer to prefer My ways always.”

Well that is what I prefer, but what I prefer is not always performed. Does that ever happen to you? The solution to that was simple. “So do it again.” As in anything, those who develop their skills the most, perform the best. Ultimately it boils down to desire. We tend to do best what we desire most. The things we focus on are the things we put first. If we will put our desire for God at the top of our list and prefer to prefer His ways always, we will experience more and more of the Kingdom of God that He has promised us. Blessed are they who put their trust in the Lord. He is able. Trust Him. He loves you!
