PERFECTLY TRAINED
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.(Luke 6:40 NKJ)
I don’t know about you, but I find it necessary to keep right on training. No matter what we may be involved in, we have to keep at it. An athlete must keep training just to maintain the level they have attained. If they want to improve they have to increase. Teachers are expected to continue their education. In other words, they have to keep going to school. The same is true for people in business, from farming to running a fortune 500 company, the education(training)never stops. When training stops, so does progress.
So then, it stands to reason that we should pay close attention to our spiritual training. After all, it is the only thing that will last forever. If we are strong in our spiritual training, it will improve all the other areas of our life as well. Not only that, but God will show us how to use every part of our lives to advance His Kingdom.
The goal of every Christian, should be to be like Jesus. He sent the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth, and Jesus is the Truth. He is also the only Way to have Life! According to what Jesus said, and continues to say, we will be perfectly trained when we are like Him. It is easy for me to see that I am still in training. I think we could all say that. Certainly we should be improving our performance all the time, but at best, we are all still in training.
Immediately after Jesus said this, He asked, “why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye?” Jesus was warning us to watch our own walk more closely that we watch others. We all know that it is easy to see what everyone else is doing wrong, but that is not what we are supposed to looking for. We are supposed to be making sure that we look more like the teacher everyday.
I know that we will be known by our fruit, but Jesus did not say that so we would spend all our time inspecting everyone else’s fruit. Certainly we all have areas where we have a clear eye. If we do, then we can help others with their training. If on the other hand we only think we have a clear eye and go about gouging out others eyes in order to get them to see what we want them to, what kind of fruit is that. OUCH!!
If we really have something that will help someone, God will open those doors. If on the other hand we go around breaking into peoples houses and trying to rearrange their furniture just because we don’t like the way they have it arranged, we will make more enemies than friends.( Know what I mean?) After all, we are all in training. So let’s be prepared to help others, and at the same time willing to be trained ourselves. Some day, we will be like Him, but until then we all need to work together to advance the Kingdom of God.
