PERSPECTIVE
Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me now. (1 Corinthians 13:12 NLT)
Have you ever noticed how things can change depending upon the perspective in which we view them? We have all experienced a time when we reacted to something without having the whole picture and then when the rest of the story was made clear it was a whole different ball game.
When we talk about realizing our position with God and how it was established through Jesus Christ we also need to realize that different people will have a different perspective of just what Jesus did for us. The better perspective we have of our position in Christ the more we will realize the benefits of the Kingdom of God.
Remember when Elisha’s servant was so scared and Elisha prayed for his eyes to be opened. Once the servant saw things from Elisha’s perspective his fear was gone. Some people have been taught that we should just struggle through this life and some glad morning we will fly away. Yet in the Psalms it says, “My soul has escaped like a bird out of the snare of the fowler. We are free to choose our own perspective, but I would encourage everyone to choose the perspective of Elisha and of the Psalmist rather than the fear of the servant, or the person just waiting to get out of here. Jesus came that our joy might be full now. He came that we might have life.
Remember, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. We need to be willing to trust what God has said about our position and seek until we have things in their proper perspective. The circumstances of our lives and the lives of those around us often serve to cloud our vision and prevent us from getting the proper perspective on things. For instance, we may not feel well and so we will pray and seek prayer from others. If the symptoms rise up after the prayer our perspective of our healing is instantly attacked. Or we may feel fine and someone will come and question whether God really healed us, and our perspective may change and cause us to begin to doubt.
It is important when these things happen that we seek the Lord and that we seek others who have a Godly and Biblical perspective on things. The devil will try to keep us from fellowship or from others who can help us to get the proper perspective and remind us of our position in Christ, but we must resist him steadfast to the end. We must cast down those thoughts that exalt themselves against what God has said. Keeping the proper perspective, will keep us confident of our position and strong in our faith. Keep seeking God for that clear view. What you know a little of today, you can know better tomorrow.
The more truth we seek, the more we will find. The more truth we find, the better our perspective and the more grounded we are in our position in Christ.
