PLAN TO LOVE
“And the King will say, I tell you the truth, when you did it to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” (Matthew 25:40)
If we read the bible and if we desire to know God, we will on occasion hit a wall! Some walls are not too bad, and others are head scratchers, and heart searchers.
In the beginning of my walk with God, I welcomed Him to keep me and never let me go back. Recently, as I prayed, I was asking God to help to love Him better, and before I finished my prayer, I knew what His word said about it. When I love others, I love Him! That can’t possibly mean that the way I love others shows how I love Him. This has been a constant source of conversation for days.
Finally, as I went to sleep last night it was with these last words from God, “Plan to love.” I think I may have added that I then need to choose to follow the plan.
I have often comforted myself with the fact that I love and trust God with no problems whatsoever. I find no fault in Him and He is always right. He just is. The idea that how I love others reflects How I love Him, was just a bit more than I was looking for.
Let’s face it, God is easy to love, but people are more challenging at times! Other people are our most difficult challenge! What can we do?
James reminds us that the love of God is shed in our hearts by Holy Spirit. And truly the only way to love like God is to know how much God loves us. So, a question that comes to my mind in response to this is, “How much do I appreciate God’s love?”
Can I love like God loves? Do I want to love like God loves? Holy Spirit I cannot do this without you! The more I think of this, I feel like I am digging a deeper pit. But it is not a pit. It is a challenge worth conquering.
Let me assure you that in the last few days, I have seen many avenues to improve my route. I have caught myself as I got close to the edge on more than a few occasions. Yes, Paul’s declaration about doing what he does not want to do and not doing what he does want to do fits this very well. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens.
He will help in every area that ask. We must face the fact that there are some areas where we do not want help. We still want our own way about some things! One of those things is who we want to love and what we expect before we will love. Is it unreasonable of God to say that how we love others reflects our love for Him?
I am determined not to look for the exceptions. I plan to love and trust Holy Spirit to guide me. I am certain that He who began this work can complete it. Help me, Lord! Won’t you join me?
