PLAN WITH GOD

The glory of the Lord will be seen by all mankind together. The Lord has spoken—it shall be. Who can advise the Spirit of the Lord or be His teacher or give Him counsel? (Isaiah 40:5, 13 TLB)

You can’t know. I was praying in the night and I saw these words. At the time, I was talking to the Lord about my love for Him and my need to know Him more; so those words have been rattling around in my head for days.

The first thing I realized was that God was saying that I would never really know how much He loves me in this life. Also I got the impression that if I did know how much He loved me I would trust Him even more. Truly, His love never ceases. So when I wonder what He is doing or why things might be the way they are; I am reminded that I am forgetting just how great His love is.

Before I met Jesus, I used to be one of those people that depended on the love of God. I hoped that if God was love He would overlook my sins and take me in at the end of my life. Of course I suspected I was wrong.

This world is confusing. Why doesn’t God just straighten it out? Why this and why That? Why do we wonder? Why don’t we pray? Why don’t we just say, “Oh Lord You know?” If we do say that, why don’t we allow the peace of God that passes understanding keep us?

We know we should pray. We know if we know God, that there are a lot of things that are not in line with what He prefers. We see so many things that God could easily fix and wonder when it is going to happen. The truth is, we do not always like His timeline.

We really can’t know all things, but we should trust what we do know and pray about what we do not know. We know God is able! What more do we really need to know?

In a song when I was first learning to love God, I said, “look at this world around you, there must be more than this. People getting nowhere fast not knowing what is missed. Well there’s more to life than money; sure it helps but it’s not all. The Lord has what we really need; why not give Him a call?” The Chorus said, “And God will give you everything. More than this world could ever give. God will give you everything; then you’ll really start to live.”

I knew this in my heart and for 38 years I have been working on applying it to my life. Let’s face it, we are all working that out in our lives at one stage or another. Sometimes I have it running smooth and other times I hit bumps in the road. We can trust that God knows what He is doing and that He will complete what He has started. Let’s be sure to plan with Him and trust Him along the way. Pray and trust.  Then trust some more. Then pray some more. Oh Lord. Oh Lord!
