PLAYING THE SONG
He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. (Romans 4:21 NKJV)
There is no doubt in my mind that God has perfect pitch, and that as His children we are perfectly tuned instruments! However, no matter how perfectly an instrument is tuned, it cannot play the song on its own. With today’s technology of course instruments can be preprogrammed to play songs, but even then they do not program themselves or play on their own. In fact, it takes a certain amount of understanding just to get them started.
In the same sense, we need some understanding in order to perform on these perfectly tuned instruments that God has created us to be. The first step then is to have confidence in God and His promises. We need to believe that He has created us perfectly in tune. He has put into us all that we will ever need. We must believe that He has given us each the same measure to begin with and that our song can be as perfect as anyone else’s.
Having this confidence will not necessarily assure that we will do everything perfectly, only that perfection is there. Abraham did not do everything perfectly, but He never lost confidence in God’s ability to perform. The truth is that as we present ourselves to God as instruments of worship He will play a beautiful song with us.
The first instrument I ever started playing was an old up right piano in our home. I say I started playing, because I never really learned to play, I just picked it up by ear. When I got older, I was always limited in performing by whether or not there was a piano around. Someone suggested that perhaps I should learn to play the guitar but I really did not think that was possible. Well this person handed me a perfectly tuned guitar along with some pictures she drew on a piece of paper and told me to try. The instrument was a great instrument, but it did not sound so great when I started. The first time I actually heard it sound the way it was supposed to with my fingers playing, I became inspired and began to believe that perhaps it could actually work for me. Now, forty years later I know that it will do everything I am willing to try and make it do. I need to say here that I have limited the guitars I play to the basics simply because I have not pressed on into playing them better. So far, two of my children who started out the same way I did, have gone on to play far better than I have and they can do it with the same instrument!
It takes time and effort to play an instrument and no matter how much you play, there will always be more that can be produced with the instrument. The same is true in our walk with God. God makes everything perfect. We simply need to have the confidence that He is able to perform what He has promised and continue to grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Just imagine yourself as the perfect instrument that you are and present yourself to the Lord to play. Then get ready for beautiful music.
