PLEASING TO GOD
But before he was taken up, he was approved as pleasing to God. (Hebrews 11:5 NLT)
We know that Jesus pleased God. We know that Enoch pleased God. We know that many people pleased God. But did it ever occur to you that you please God? Yes you do! If you have faith, you please God. Without faith it is impossible to please Him, so it stands to reason that if you have faith, you do please God. Think about that for a moment.
It is something that we seldom consider. In fact, as I considered it, I immediately came up with many reasons why I could not possibly please Him. After all, I am far from perfect. Guess what? God knows more about us than we do. He knows everything we think, do, or say, that comes short of the glory of God, but still, if we have faith, He is pleased with us.
Is He pleased with everything we do or say? No He does not like the things that fall short of the glory of God, but that does not change how He feels about you. You are special to Him. If you believe in His son and His plan of salvation, then you tickle Him just like a father is tickled with his child.
The very fact that you wonder if you please God shows that you care about pleasing Him. And guess what? That pleases Him. There are so many who refuse to accept His love and approval, that He hovers over those who do in order to see that they are taken care of.
When we accept Christ for who He is, then He accepts us for who we are. That starts a wonderful relationship. As we grow to know Him more, we desire to be more like Him because we realize that He alone is good and it is our hearts desire to be just like Him.
The very thought that you have pleased Him should encourage you greatly. Go ahead and ask Him if you please Him. I can guarantee that if you love Him, you please Him. Remember, His pleasure in you is not based on your performance it is based on your faith. He knows that as your faith grows, your performance will fall into place.
He is just so happy to have you in the family. So do yourself a favor and instead of beating yourself up over your failures, spend some time just loving God, knowing that you are pleasing Him. Once you have enjoyed that comfort, be open to hearing Him tell you not only that He is pleased but also some other encouragement and direction for your life. He knows some really great ways to bless you and make you a blessing. He knows how to reach the whole world with the Good News!
What a gift it is at Christmas time to understand that you please God! Praise the Lord!!
