PLENTY OF LIGHT
For as long as I am in the world, there is plenty of light. I am the world's Light (John 9:5)
I am not necessarily afraid of the dark, but I cannot say that I really like it either. When I was a little kid I was really scared of the dark. That may be because my older brother told me a boogie man story! I can remember running down the middle of the road looking up at the street lights in order to get home. I was not about to walk down the side walk; there were too many bushes and shadows. Do any of you remember nights like that?
Our street lights were not very bright, and they were not very close together, but they were better than no lights at all. I forgot to tell you why I ran looking at the street lights. As long as I looked at those lights, the shadows could not scare me! I think there is good spiritual lesson in that picture.
Jesus said that He was the light of the world. I like how The Message says, “As long as I am in the world there is plenty of light!” We know that some choose darkness over the light; the truth is everyone in darkness really is looking for light. For those who have come to know the Light we need to believe the Light. We should not walk in darkness or confusion. Jesus said He provides plenty of light and Jesus does not lie.
He gives us light through His Word. The Holy Spirit speaks the truth to us and illuminates the way as we go. Scripture says that those walked in darkness have seen a great light. We need to run to the light, with our eyes on the light. If we do this we will know the truth and the truth will make us free.
Jesus provides more than enough light to see us through every circumstance in life. Jesus promised that He would always make a way. We simply need to be willing to walk in the light as He is in the light.
What is the first thing you do when you walking into a dark room? You look for the light switch! If it is a room you are familiar with, you know where the switch is. If it is a room you are not familiar with, you look in the normal places where you expect the switch to be. The bottom line is that do what you need to do to find the switch, you don’t just say oh well and grope around in the darkness.
Apply that plan to your life. Always switch on the light. In some situations, we have been there before and walk right through in that light. At other times, we may not be so familiar with the territory. If that is case, we should not just flounder around in the darkness. We must look to the Light and take the time to allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate the way. Don’t say there is no way or that you cannot make it. There is plenty of light!
