POSITION CONDITION
You are God's dear children, so try to be like Him. (Ephesians 5:1 ERV)
It is what it is. You are what you are. So if any man be in Christ he is a new creature. As we move toward the New Year, I thought it would be good to consider position and the condition of our position. If we are in Christ, then we know that the conditions of our position have been met in Him because salvation is conditional only upon our believing, repenting, and receiving the free gift of salvation. This puts us in a good position. How conditioned we are walk in this new position however is our responsibility.
When I was younger, there was a song with a line that said, “I just stopped in to see what condition my condition was in.” This is something that people regularly do when they go to the doctor. They stop to see what condition they are in and sometimes when they do this they are told they have a condition or that they are in good condition or need to get into condition.
When I played baseball I knew how to get into position to catch the ball. I would position myself based on the hitter and his stance and would be prepared to take off at the crack of the bat. Learning to do this came with practice or conditioning for the position. Knowing how was important, but being in condition to get where I knew I needed to be was of great importance as well. There is conditioning that goes into playing the position up to maximum efficiency.
Spiritually speaking, having met the conditions required for the position we possess, it is wise to condition ourselves for optimum performance. This performance that I speak of is not works rather it is working out our salvation. For instance, let’s say that we have a medical checkup and we are told that we have a condition and there is no remedy for it. If we are spiritually conditioned we will not be defeated by such a revelation, because we know that because of our position in Christ we are in condition for the promises of God and immediately position ourselves to catch the promise of God and not be crushed by the diagnoses.
There are times when we discover just what condition our condition is in! For instance, recently I was playing with my grandson, and we were doing some running. I became quickly aware that my condition was not what it once was. It was not like I expected to run like I did twenty years ago, but all the same I was very aware that I needed to be slow and steady. The point is that I can do something to improve. I can rationalize and say well I do ok for a guy going on sixty-one years old. Or, I could just get depressed and give up.
The same is true spiritually, and sometimes the spiritual work seems more difficult than the physical until we consider the condition that our position puts us in! Once we take that into consideration we realize that we simply need to stand up, put on Christ, and keep standing. We submit ourselves totally to God and resist the devil and he flees. If you have ever watched the biggest loser, you know that those folks have to submit themselves to their trainers. An athlete has to submit him or herself to the coach but along with that, it takes a commitment to endure the conditioning.
This is a good time to consider what our position in Christ provides for the condition of our lives and whether or not we are conditioning ourselves so that we will always be in the best possible position available to us. Think about it!
