POSITION CONSCIOUSNESS
God made us free from the power of darkness. And He brought us into the kingdom of His dear son. The son paid the price to make us free. In Him we have the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13-14 ERV)
We live in a performance world. We are advanced or reduced based on performance. In fact in many instances we are judged by expected performance and moved accordingly. For instance, someone who has performed well is highly paid because they are expected to continue. Movies cast high paid actors and actresses and at times those movies bomb for one reason or another. Sometimes the favorite wins a race and sometimes the favorite loses. An athlete has a good year and then not such a good year. The bottom line is performance.
Unfortunately, the body of Christ often falls into this trap as well. If we do this, we begin to judge ourselves and others based solely on performance forgetting to focus on position first. Remember, God has positioned us according us to His good will.
The thing that I am trying to get at here is; if we learn to look at things with a position consciousness, our performance will follow our position. Who am I in Christ? What has God said about me? We were created in Christ for good works. The good works come from the position they do not create the position. A person may have great abilities to perform a position and the fact that there is a position brings about the opportunity to perform.
How many Christians give up or feel like giving up because they do not feel like they perform well enough. If we forget that we are positioned by and through Christ we cannot help but perform poorly. On the other hand, if we maintain confidence because of the position we have, we open the door to perform naturally based on who we are.
If you ever watched the movie Blind Side, there was a part where Michael was performing poorly and his momma went out on the field and explained his position to him as a protector. Knowing his position totally changed his performance. Previous to this they just kept expecting him to perform and nothing was happening.
I think this is much of what happens to Christians. The bible says we are new creatures. We feel a little different, but we know little of our position. Then unfortunately we begin to be judged on performance and behavior by ourselves and others. Jesus knew His position. The religious folks wanted him behave in a different manner. Knowing His position empowered Him to perform according to the plan of God. Try reading God’s word to learn your position and you will find performance is not nearly so difficult. If you feel like giving up, look at the hall of faith in Hebrews 11. How many of them would have passed on their performance only. We would have written them off. You have been delivered from darkness and seated with Christ in heavenly places; live conscious of that position. When you read the word, see who you are, then you be able to do!
