POSITIONING

But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces... (Matthew 13:23a NKJ)

The question that we want to begin this New Year with is, “How are we positioning ourselves?” Are we positioning ourselves to produce? Do we know that we can or that we should? The truth is that we are all producing something, even it is nothing! How we position ourselves directly affects our production.

Position and timing have a lot to do with everything and when you think about it people are always positioning themselves. Some people, such as royalty, are born with positions of entitlement. Other people are born at what appears to be low position and they rise to a higher position. Jesus was one who was born in what appeared to be the lowest of positions, but ultimately fulfilled His promised position as King of Kings.

The truth is that people spend a lot of time working on their position. Some seem to spend their lives ruining their lives, while others will do anything to get the position they want. In the case of Jacob and Esau, we one brother squandering his position while the other brother wants it bad enough to steal it from him!

Watch people as they stand in line and you see a lot of examples of people wanting position and others who think they are entitled to position. Some people are patient and others cut the line like they own it. Don’t you just hate it when people cut in line? Who do they think they are any way? Sometimes people will cheat and steal in order to gain a position that they really cannot fill.

Well, this message is all about the good news that God has put us all in perfect position for the establishment of His Kingdom in and around our lives. We were born in a position to receive salvation; all that is required is to ask. Once we receive salvation we are in a position to produce. His word guides us like a GPS to His perfect place which is the position that we should all desire. No matter where we are or what our circumstance, we can position ourselves to receive His best.

This may seem hard at times, because there may be a cost involved in getting to that position. We may be required to stop in our tracks or turn around in order to get in the proper position, but it is always worth it. It may require us doing something as simple as standing in line when we would rather cut, or returning the shopping cart to the right place when we would rather not. It may also be something that seems more difficult, like forgiving someone. Of course we know that the cost could be far greater than this.

As lovers of Jesus Christ, we simply must keep ourselves in position to produce. Keep receiving the good seed of the Gospel. Keep pressing into the Kingdom God has prepared for us.
