POSSESS

Abraham never wavered in believing God's promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. (Romans 4:20 NLT)

As we have looked at different aspects of our faith from position to progress, there is a key that locks them all together. The key is for us to possess the promise of God. I certainly cannot say that I have a formula for doing this, but I am certain that it is the only way we will see and experience all that God has for us in this life.

This scripture tells us that Abraham never wavered in believing. He was sure that God could do what God said He would. Abraham’s actions may have been a little off center in our way of thinking, but His trust in God was secure. Because Abraham did not waiver in his confidence it what God could do, he saw the substance of the promises. I think it safe to say that he died with the confidence that there was more to come and that God would do even greater things.

Perhaps a way to acquire possession would be say that we should seek God until we own the promise. Many people will say that they believe in God, but to just believe that He is exists is only a start. We have to understand that He is intimately interested in every aspect of our lives. We must believe that He has plans for our lives that are good plans, no, great plans.

He has promised us these things and yet we probably experience only a small portion of them, because we do not go ahead and possess them. When we talk about our position with God there are many who have heard about it but never took the step to possess it. There is no way that we can look at things from God’s perspective if we are not owners of our position. In the same sense, we may have taken the step into our position, but we fail to take possession of the perspective that the Holy Spirit gives us in our faith walk.

We cannot just be hearers of the word. We cannot just say, “Oh that is nice, I am glad it works for you but I live in the real world.” God’s promises and His word are the real world. Everything around us is trying to distract us from that. That is why we have such a struggle seeing the potential in the kingdom of God, let alone possessing it.

If we do not take ownership, then we do not see progress. If we do not see progress, we tend to just back up and sit down in our faith. In the world if someone starts a business and it does not make progress it ends up being scrapped. One thing we do not want to do is scrap our faith.

When God sent Israel into the Promised Land He told them to go and possess it. It was theirs, but they had to take possession. The same is true for us. The promises of God are our promised land and we must take possession of what is ours. So let’s press until we possess the promises of God.
