POTENTIAL
No eye has see, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him. (1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT)
People have always talked about the potential of things. We want athletes to play up to their potential. We want students to achieve up to their potential. The market people tell us of the potential of different investments. People say things like the potential for success is unlimited. Well, I am sure you get the picture and in fact have some potential illustrations going through your mind right now.
There are many things I love about being a pastor, but one big one is seeing people begin to experience the potential that is waiting to become reality in the Kingdom of God. I think that we should speak of that more when we share with others. We should tell them that there is great potential in becoming a follower of Jesus Christ! It is sad to say that for the most part Christians have conveyed more of the downside of investing in the Kingdom of God and because of that many people cannot see any reason to get in.
Well the truth is we have the safest and surest thing going. Remember, that Jesus secured our position on the cross. Nothing can change what God has promised, so when we receive Christ we receive the whole package. In market terms you could say that we have the preferred stock and unlimited stock options. We need only to take advantage of them.
Our willingness to move ahead is of course directly related to our perspective on what the Word of God says. Again I have to say as a pastor that it is all joy to inform people of their position because of Christ. It is such a privilege to encourage someone by showing them that no matter what may be troubling them, Jesus has made a way and that He is busy about His Father’s business on their behalf even before they call. Hey, we all lose sight of our position at times and because of that, God told us to help one another by reminding one another what God has promised.
Yes we all have a mandate from God to get things in perspective and to help others do the same. Our confidence in our position, which is enhanced as we gain the proper perspective, guarantees the realization of our potential.
Jesus came and revealed what was potentially ours in this life time. He would say things like, “I have been with you this long and you still don’t get it!” Once He sent them out and gave them authority so they would see the potential if the Kingdom first hand. They really liked that, but the truth was they only saw a small part. He said even greater things were coming. It is my privilege to repeat that to all who have ears to hear. Greater things are coming. You have not seen it all yet. You have not even dared to imagine it. But the Lord has shown us the potential and the success is guaranteed. Press on.
