PRACTICAL
For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as god’s slaves. (1 Peter 2:15 NIV)
Have you ever considered that Jesus came and made what people today think is radical the practical thing to do. Truly, to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength appears a bit crazy to those who do not know Him. Romans chapter twelve suggests that presenting ourselves to God as a living sacrifice is a reasonable service; it is the only practical thing to do considering the price He paid for our souls.
What is most important; Jesus, or what Jesus can do for you. Until He is most important, we will be chasing after bread! Remember when Jesus fed thousands; He told them there were more important things than bread!
As you read Leviticus and see all that God required on a daily basis, you can only imagine the attitudes of people when they had to do such things. What is your attitude toward the practical things the Lord requires?
He wants us to love Him more than our own lives. He wants us to forgive. He wants us to give. He wants us to trust Him. He wants to do what is practical for a person who has put on Christ! It is not radical to believe God. It only makes sense.
I was not there when they nailed Jesus to the cross; none of us were! I want to be there for Him now. I want to be wherever He wants whenever He wants me to be there. We might think that is not practical! How could we possibly do that? It is impossible if we forget that Jesus was our practical example. He always did what His father wanted. He did it where He was. He did not try to be anywhere else. He could do it from where He was. He told us we could too.
He said to pray. Prayer is the practical thing. Believing when we pray is the practical thing. Keeping on praying is the practical thing. Never giving up…is the practical thing. Never give up. I won’t give up. I won’t give in. I’ll just start to praise again. That may sound radical, but it is the only reasonable thing to do.
Jesus made it clear that He did what God showed Him and told Him; to the outsider it was anything but practical. It was beyond what even those who traveled with Him could get their heads around, but Jesus kept explaining that it was practical in God’s kingdom.
Is it possible for God to intervene in the things of men? Of course it is. “If you can believe” Jesus said, “All things are possible.” If salvation makes sense to us, then so does everything else Jesus said. It is not radical faith to believe God, it is the practical thing to do. Choose life!
