PRAISED UP AND TUNED IN

Always be filled with joy in the Lord. I will say it again. Be filled with joy. (Phil 4:4 ERV)

How is everything going to work out? Why doesn’t God do something? These and many other questions run through people’s minds and out of our lips if we are not watchful. There is more than enough bad news going around and this bad news is often used as proof that God must not be who we think or who He says. So what do we do? We hold fast to the truth!

Paul told the people to continue following the Lord. Then he told them to always be filled with joy and not worry about anything. Then in verse 8, he tells them to simply continue to think about what is good and worthy of praise. Well of course the first thing we think of when we think of what is good and worthy of praise is God. So that is a great place to keep our hearts and minds. He goes on to say that we should think of what is true and honorable, right and pure, and beautiful and respected. All of these of course are God as well. There are blessed things in life that we can consider too!

In the night I was thinking about this and of course about all the things that stand against the truth and God said to treat those things like gossip. As I thought of that He said that there may well be some truth but it is not the truth and so treat it like you would gossip and go to the source.

We are not blind or ignorant as Christians, we simply know someone who is above all things. So while there is evil all around, we are to trust in the pure truth and life that is in Christ Jesus. We certainly see the mountains, but we can say the things that move mountains.

If we are going to repeat something, we should choose to repeat what God says about the situation. I can either say I am so sick, or I can say I am so healed. I can say it is hopeless or I can say I am so hopeful in Christ. I can say there is nothing I can do or I can say I can do all things through Christ.

Jesus, after reading the words in the temple, told the people that what he read was coming true as He read it. I thought how true this is for us. As we read the Word of God, it comes true as we hear it. We can read it many times before it comes true to us, but the truth is always there waiting for us to hear it with our whole being.

When our hearts receive it, it becomes true to us. This is all the more reason to think on these things. Have you ever said, “The more I think about it?” Things often change as we think about them. The more we consider the truth, the more convinced we are of it.

This is why it is so important to remain praised up and tuned in. If we let our praise meter lower, our tuner become week and we become susceptible to mixed signals! Stay in the truth and filled with the joy of the Lord. The joy of the Lord is our strength!
