PRAY

But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit.

This morning as I spoke with God there came a place where He told me that I needed to figure some things out for myself based on what I knew from His word. My response was that I did not care to figure for myself as I would mess it up on my own.(After all, I did spend the first thirty years of my life doing my own figuring.) He told me that I had the mind of Christ. Yes, scripture does tell us that we have the mind of Christ, so I asked how to go about turning it(the mind of Christ)on? God told me to pray in tongues.

Now I know that this is controversial in some circles. I want to say that I am not pusher of praying in tongues(perhaps I should be), but I am a promoter. Paul said that He would that everyone prayed in tongues, and I do believe that the Word of God gives us ample reason for desiring spiritual gifts. So please do not be offended, for there is no offense intended. I am simply relaying what the Lord has told me to relay. It is not intended to promote any argument only to offer encouragement to those who do pray in the Holy Spirit language to pray more, and to encourage those who do not, to seek God for wisdom about doing so.

There are an abundance of scriptures that explain why God would say this to me. To be honest, when He said it, my first thought about myself was, “well duh!” I mean really, I should have figured that out. Since He does tell us that the Spirit knows what and how to pray, and that He makes intercession for us. It just never occurred to me that the two things worked together like that. Why? I do not know. But for some reason that just had never clicked in my mind.

It is kind of one of those things that a person figures out after the fact. I mean, that I have been praying in the Spirit for over fifteen years. I have received much guidance from God when I did. In fact, when ever I did not know what to pray, that is always what I did. I just never added two and two on the idea of this being what turns on(so to speak)the mind of Christ in me.

For a long time, it seemed that I prayed very little with understanding. I would pray for hours in tongues. Then I decided I should pray more with understanding. The only problem with that was that I felt like my prayers were pretty powerless. It was like I was figuring out what to say. I must admit that the balance was tipping more and more toward what I had to say, and less and less to the language of the Holy Spirit.

I guess that is why God gave me a little glimpse of what would be most beneficial for me and for those that I pray for. We are told to seek and to share. If we seek God, then truly we have something to share. So today I share with you this bit of encouragement. We all need the mind of Christ flowing in our lives. We all would have to admit that we have times where it is obvious that it is not His mind that is control in our lives. I also think that most of us would like to have Him doing all the leading.

It is for this reason that I share with you, what God shared with me. If we need help of any kind. Whether it be wisdom, strength, direction, or correction, God gives us the opportunity to activate the mind of Christ. We all know that it is possible to quench the Spirit, because the word warns us not to. It stands to reason that if we can quench Him, we can also invite Him to lead. “Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness.”(1 Timothy 4:7b)
