PRAY
"Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven above or on earth below like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their heart." (1Kings 8:22 NKJ)
The first step in achieving par in God’s Kingdom Course is to pray. Prayer is simply personal communication between us and God. God wants it personal, so there is no way that I will attempt to tell you what to say. There are many things that are included in prayer, but the words you use to say them are between you and God.
We know of course that God is worthy of praise and that He should be exalted, loved, and adored. Solomon made a point of letting God know that there was no God like Him. Jesus told us to pray and call God our father. God is the ultimate father, so whether you have experienced a good father or not, you do know what you would consider to be the ideal father. Believe me, God is the ideal father!
We all understand that prayer is not just running around making requests when we feel like it. And at the same time, God wants us to bring all requests to Him all the time. So there are times when we do throw prayers up on the move, but there must also be times where we do like Jesus and come aside to be alone with the Lord.
In Philippians we are challenged not to worry about anything, but rather to pray about everything. We are to make our requests with thanksgiving. So we see that the giving of thanks is another important part of our prayer. We should thank God for what He has done, as well as for what we know He is about to do. We should thank Him just for being who He is.
Prayer is also lavishing our love on God. People say that God knows our hearts, and that is right, but that does not mean that He does not like to hear us express our deep love for Him. Remember that what is in our hearts overflows from our lips. So the fruit of our lips loving and giving thanks to God paves the way for our petitions.
Understand that this is not intended to soften God up so He will listen. It does more to prepare us to believe that God really wants to hear from us. The reason many people do not expect much from God is because they know they have not given Him much in the first place. When we take the time to love and praise God, it gives us the confidence to come boldly before His throne of grace. That is the wonderful place of special favor and blessing.
There is a King’s highway, and prayer is what paves the way to par in the Kingdom of God. So remember, give God the glory due His name as you enter your place of prayer. Love Him. Thank Him. Praise Him. Pitch a Holy fit on occasion! As you do this, revelation will come and you will move powerfully into step two of par in God’s Kingdom.
