PRECIOUS LORD
Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints. (Psalm 116:15)
“Precious Lord, take my hand. Lead me on. Help me stand.” You might recognize those words of the song by that title. We understand from God’s word that we are precious to Him, but do we know Him as precious to us.
We might see God and our faith as an important part of our lives, but most of us would say that our cell phones are important too! After all, do we ever go anywhere without them? I did, just this week and I did survive! But I sure did not do it intentionally!
We sing a chorus telling the Lord that He is more precious than silver, but silver does not really mean all that much to us. Gold is worth more and diamonds are beautiful. Although, I recently learned that diamonds are no longer as high value as they have been in the past. So, some values fluctuate, but God’s value to us must not!
As I looked for the best scripture with precious in it, I found several, but this one spoke something a little different than I was searching for initially. It spoke to me of each time that we elevate God on our precious list. Each time we choose His way over our way, we die a little and He becomes more precious.
We cannot flourish in our lives in Christ Jesus, if He is only important to us. So, we need to ask ourselves if He is precious to us. We protect precious things. Do we protect our relationship with God? Do we make sure that we keep it in good condition and always well-oiled and at the forefront of our thinking? I don’t know about you, but I always have family photos if anyone asks to see them. Sometimes I show them before I am asked, because the people in them are important and precious to me. It is like displaying our hope in Christ and being prepared to explain it!
I try to remember to ask God how He is doing? I know He is God and He is always good and always in control, but He is important, (precious) enough to check in on how He is doing. He has feelings! We care about precious things, don’t we?
Our relationship with God is more than just calling when we need something. It is more than doing the minimum to satisfy what we think should be enough to keep Him happy. Just considering His feelings is precious in His sight. Jesus started our training by telling us to magnify God’s name and put His will and His plans ahead of ours, before we start asking for anything else. Jesus also made it clear that we were more than welcome to ask away.
Is anything more precious to us than God? David asked God to search his heart and let him know if there was anything out of place. It is best if we trust Him enough to listen and let Him line things up. I am not suggesting that we go on a hunt for things that we can condemn ourselves for.
God wants the very best for us. When He is precious to us, we open the door to His very best. When other things block that door, it is a hindrance to the very best. Precious Lord, show us the best way!
