PREEMINENCE
All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body...that in all things He may have preeminence. (Colossians 1:16-18 NKJ)
I am so glad I can seek the Lord for answers but that I do not have to know it all. I am sure that the list of things I do not understand is longer that the list of the things that I do understand, but the Lord instructed me to keep learning and not to allow what I do not understand to take away from what I have in Christ. For this reason, I spend much more time focusing on what is mine in Christ than I do on the things I cannot yet understand.
It seems to me that the more I know Him, the easier it is for me to accept the things that I just do not quite get; if you know what I mean. The More I know Jesus the more I understand that He must have preeminence in all things in my life. When my thoughts exalt themselves above His ways and His word, I can more quickly get them back under control. The more time I spend with Him considering His ways, the easier it is to walk in His ways and access the benefits of His ways. Conversely, the less time I spend with Him considering His ways, the more I become prey to the fruit of my own thoughts.
In Jeremiah 6:19 God points out that calamity will come on the people as the fruit of their thoughts. Have you ever considered the fruit of your thoughts? For instance, you could drink a big glass of water in the morning and suddenly feel chilled and even experience a little nausea. Or, if I wake up and have green tea on an empty stomach it makes me feel very ill. If my first thought is, “oh my I feel sick; I must be getting that thing that is going around,” I could spend a long time in the fruit of those thoughts. Even it were one of those bugs going around, I could increase or decrease the severity of it with my thoughts. On the other hand, I can let the Word of God have preeminence and move it in the right direction. Even the world has grasped the idea of positive thinking. This is a principle that God created. Consequently it stands to reason that it is most powerful through Christ.
It is necessary therefore that we give Jesus preeminence in all things in our lives. The order was established at creation. I do not understand why God allows us to disrupt the order. I do not know why He does not just take control of everything and zap the world into another Eden and get this whole thing over with. It makes no natural sense that He chooses to give us the information and then allows us to decide who we will give preeminence to. Then again, it does not make much sense for us to have the opportunity to choose life and then not do it.
We must be convinced that problems are not God’s fault if we are going to trust Him to be the solution. Again we must remember that Jesus warned us there would be problems in the world, but that He had overcome them all. So no matter whether the problem is physical or emotional; if we are certain that He is the solution, we will focus on Him, and He will not forsake us. Stand on that.
