PREPARATION
For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. (Ephesians 6:15)
Good preparation is instrumental for success in whatever we do. That is why athletes practice, students study, researchers research, and planners plan. They are making preparations.
The Bible speaks of being prepared. God also tells us about the things He has prepared for us. One of the last things Jesus spoke about was the place He was preparing for us. I am confident that the things that God prepares are amazing. In fact we know that eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined what God has prepared for us.
He prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies. When the enemy comes in, the Lord floods our lives with His presence and the enemy cannot stand in His presence. So I think we all agree that preparation is important and that the things God prepares and promises are good.
So the question is: what are we preparing for? In the night, the Lord spoke this word to me, “preparations.” It is important that we make the right preparations. So what are we the most prepared for?
Are we spending our time preparing for the worst or for the best? If we plan for the worst, we will probably get it. Some people are convinced that if we plan for the worst it will save us from being disappointed! Personally I have learned to plan for the best and leave the rest to God. I have found even in extreme circumstances that God’s grace is more than sufficient to overcome what some would see as great disappointments.
Are we preparing for defeat or for victory? Scripture says that faith is the victory that overcomes the world. So is that faith in the best or in the worst? Are we called to pray believing or to pray and take what we can get? Did Jesus tell sickness to go if it felt like it? Did He call Lazarus to come forth if he could? Did He tell the sea to calm down if it was possible? Only one time did Jesus say “If it is possible,” but even then He knew the will of God. How often did He say, “Your faith has made you whole?”
So are we preparing for the will of God or the wrath of God? If we are His children should we prepare for His wrath or His deliverance? When I say deliverance I am not speaking of escape. I am speaking of victory. I am speaking of overcoming the world because Jesus said that is our destiny.
The peace that the Good News brings, that is what we should always be prepared with. God is good and we know it. We should always be prepared to see His goodness. So again let us ask ourselves: what are we prepared for?
