PREPARE
He sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us...(Luke 22:8 NKJ)
Well it is graduation day here, and my first born is graduating. He is passing over into the next phase of life, and so is the rest of the family. Actually a lot of lives are affected as each person graduates. Jesus and His disciples celebrated Passover, and there is a lot of celebrating that goes on in these times of passing over as well.(some good and some bad) I have to tell you that there has been lot of preparation going on for this around our house.
First, I promised Vikki that I would finish the kitchen before Joshua graduated, so last week was really busy. Thanks to a dear and handy friend, that got done. Bear with me, as this one is just plain going to be a personal devotion. Any way, I was talking about preparations. We have lots of friends helping us get ready for this day.(Thanks to each of you.) One doing food, others volunteering to watch over the reception so Vikki can just enjoy it. It is amazing to say the least. (I probably should mention that we are also preparing for a family trip which starts tomorrow and ends after about four thousand miles. All seven of us rolling merrily along.)
Of course the yard has to look good, so I did not want to do it till the last day. This is where this devotion began to be composed. I was mowing the yard with the push mower(it cuts it shorter and nicer)in the rain. Yes, in the rain. I was doing lots of visiting with God, and I said, “Man isn’t it amazing all the stuff we will do to get everything just right for this graduation?”(There were other people all over town doing many things along the same order I am sure.) “Lord, we should do this and much more in preparation for you!”
He then reminded me that what ever we do, we should do it “heartily” as unto the Lord. Well, I can honestly say that every thing we do, We try to keep God involved. No matter what it is, we need His guidance and help. When things go good, we thank and praise Him. When there seems to be no way, we call Him and He answers us. For instance, at supper last night I remembered that I promised to put in a new faucet in the bathroom.(Oh yes, plumbing!) Well, for a little bit, it looked as though we would not only not have a new faucet, but we may not have any water either. A valve started leaking and well, that is when I said, “Oh Lord, help.” Well, he did and thanks to His wisdom and the fact that we live in a small town where the folks will go and open up the store after hours(twice), we have a new faucet and water. This could easily be a ten page devotion, telling how the Lord helped to get all this done. I have to admit that there have been some religious spirits that want to jump up in me and say why do people work so hard for these sorts of things, and then complain about taking some extra time for God. I learned how to quench those though, I tell them to “Shut up!”(The devil is the only one we use that term with in our house.)
What I want to say here, is that preparation is important. And no matter what it is that you are preparing for, if you honor God it will be a success. So thank you all for bearing with this, and especially, “Thank you God for making it possible. Thank you for children who graduate. Thank you for reminding us that each day is in a way a passing over. For we do not know what is in store, but as long as we have prepared our hearts to seek You we know that it will be well with our souls.”
Think about the types of preparations you make for day to day things, and ask yourself if you are exercising the same diligence for eternal things. Take time for God, it will pay dividends.
