PRIVILEGED
And we can be confident that He will listen to us whenever we ask Him for anything in line with His will. (1 John 5:14 NLT)
From time to time we hear people described as privileged. Usually this reference is made when speaking of the rich and famous. They are described this way because they appear to have everything and anything they do not have they can get. However, in many instances nothing could be further from truth. Money or position or both cannot secure the privilege that we have in Christ Jesus. Only Jesus can provide true riches and eternal life.
Have you ever considered that the privileged of the world often act with greater faith than we do as Christians? Then never hesitate to take advantage of their position or power. They will try to use their wealth and influence whether it works every time or not. In the recent elections one very rich man vowed that he would get his candidate a victory no matter what it cost. It would appear that all his wealth was no match for prayer. The point is that he tried to use what he had. As Christians we could learn a lesson from this example.
We need to get understanding concerning the privileges that we have. When we talked about Job and his declaration that he had a right to complain, I suggested he would do better to exercise his right to remain silent and exercise his privilege of hearing God. If we will do this then we can be as Jesus was and only say what the Lord wants said.
Would it really hurt to take a moment to find out what God has to say about something? Wouldn’t we be wise to take advantage of all of our resources? We truly are the most privileged. Think about it. We have the best lawyer in Christ Jesus who is our advocate. We have the Wonderful Counselor. We have the richest daddy in the entire world. In fact He owns it all because he created it. People may use it for time, and they may even think they own it, but in the end ownership will return to the creator. Therefore, it is all part of our inheritance. Our judge is not only fair; He has never made a mistake. This is the very judge, father, advocate, counselor, and savior, who watches over His word in order to perform it.
Now then, whom does He listen to? He listens to you and to me when we pray in line with His will. How do we find out what His will is? We find out by asking. We find out by taking the time to exercise the right of seeking God. That is the most important thing we can do for every area of our lives.
It seems to me that we would all be wise to take advantage of our position. We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Instead of limiting ourselves by depending upon the resources the world has to offer, let’s step into the privilege of our position in Christ. Remember the story of the prince and the pauper and how suddenly someone who previously had nothing had everything and someone who had everything suddenly had nothing. It was all as a result of changing identities. We were lost, but now we are found. We were dead in our sin without hope, now we have everything.
Exercise your right to imagine all the good plans that God has for you. Set your heart to seek the Lord. “Search us Lord and show us anything that keeps us from our position of privilege and lead us in the way that is everlasting.”
