PROMISES AND PERFORMANCE
Christ says yes to all of God’s promises, so that they become true. So when we pray, we yes, amen! Because we know that Christ has done it. And when we do that, we are saying God is great. (2Cor 1:20)
For many of us, we know this verse as the promises of God are yes and amen! We say this because we know that God keeps His promises. In Christ, the promises are yes and amen. The word of God tells us that we are in Christ. We are in Him, but we are not Him. He is the one and only.
Pray for the sick, and they will recover because God said that we are healed because of the stripes of Jesus. We pray, but it does not always go our way. Does that mean God failed? Does it mean we failed? No doubt we all have thought both of those things at one time or another.
Well, we know that God cannot fail. We should also know that we cannot fail if we pray. Prayer says to God, “I believe you. I believe in you. I trust you.” We cannot fail unless we fail to pray. We can trust God. God does not fail. Circumstances and situations may not go our way, but God does not fail.
He has made the promises. The one who promises is also the one who must perform. I was thinking about this and it hit me that the performance of the promises is up to God. I cannot perform healing or cast out a devil or raise the dead. If I could, then I could claim the glory. Jesus told us that we could not do anything without Him.
We can trust His promises; that is our part. I know that trusting can be a struggle, but it is not nearly as hard as trying to perform. Trying to stand in for Jesus would be like getting put into the Super Bowl for the final play with it all resting on you. Or it would be like being called from the waiting to perform brain surgery.
Oftentimes, it disgusts us when someone tells us we need to trust the Lord. Be honest; we may say we know, but we have heard it before. We have all had the experience of not receiving what we trusted for. When we do not get what we want, we often miss what we did get. We always get God. He is always present. We are just looking somewhere else so we do not notice Him standing beside us!
God is able to perform! We need to look to Him. I was going over this with God and pointing out that He always seemed to perform what Jesus said. He healed crowds and fed crowds! And guess what; Jesus said that He only said and did what the Father said and showed Him to do.
We should always pray, and we should always trust. We do not always know, but we know the one who does know. He made the promises, He can handle the performance.
