PROOF
Take along the offering...so everyone will have proof of your healing. (Matthew 8:4 NLT)
Each time I read this account of the leper being healed it speaks more truth to me. According to custom, this leper should not have even been there among so many people. If he said anything, he should have been telling people that he was unclean. Instead he came and knelt before Jesus worshipping Him. He told Jesus that He knew Jesus could heal him if he wanted to. I believe that trusting God is a form of worship that moves God more that we know. Jesus’ immediate response was to touch the man and tell him that he wanted to heal him. “Be healed!” Instantly the leprosy disappeared. It didn’t just get a little better. It was all gone. I know that not all healings take place like this, but I think they could. If we worship and trust God completely, I really think they could. What a joy it is to have God touch us.
Then Jesus told the man to go right to the priest and let him see what had happened. You see the priest had the final say as to whether someone was healed or not. Jesus also warned him not to talk to anyone along the way. Many times I think people get talked out of the healing that God does for them. Some folks mean well but because they doubt they cause others to doubt what God can do. I have heard many testimonies of people who were healed and then began to doubt. I have heard them tell how symptoms left immediately when they were prayed for, but when someone questioned them or when they felt a little twinge again, they began to doubt and the sickness returned. I have heard people try to say that many of the people who claim to be healed are just saying so as a result of some emotional thing, and that they were never really healed. I choose to believe that they were healed and then it was the emotion of doubt that robbed them.
Well the reason Jesus sent the man to the priest was so that everyone would have proof of his healing. Jesus wants to prove Himself to us. Some might say He does not have to prove anything and that is true. Still, He wants us thoroughly convinced of Who He is and what He can do. When we are convinced, we are better able to convince others.
The world is looking for proof. They are looking for people whose lives have been impacted by Jesus Christ. If we say Jesus is Lord, they say where is the proof. The proof is in our lives. Are we changed? Are we changeable? Oswald Chambers made an interesting point when he said that it is much easier to die for Christ than it is lay down our lives for Him. Laying down what we want for the sake of someone else or giving up our right to something is laying down our life. When we will prefer others in love, we show some proof of Jesus work in our lives.
The Lord said to prove Him. I think that not only means that He will prove Himself to us, but it is also a command to prove His life changing power to others. Lord, is my life proof that a touch from you changes things. Change me Lord.
