PROOF ENOUGH

"Teacher," he said, "we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are proof enough that God is with you." (John 3:2 NLT)

How much proof do we need that Jesus is who He said He was, is, and always will be. Really, He does not have to do one more thing to prove Himself. Or does He? Since He is alive forever more, doesn’t it stand to reason that He would continue to confirm His words with actions. Is it so wrong for people to want to see Him do His miracles? He does not have to do them to prove His existence, but the fact is, wherever Jesus is, miracles do take place. Yes they do. Don’t say they don’t. They may not always be miracles that we can observe, but still they take place. When someone’s hard heart is touched, that is a miracle. When the Word of God ministers peace to someone, that is a miracle. Remember, we should consider God even in the less obvious things.

Well, in this scripture, Nicodemus came to Jesus and told Him that His miracles were proof enough that God had sent Him. In response to that Jesus told him that just because He believed God had sent Him it would not be proof enough for Nicodemus to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus told him he needed to be born again. His life needed to change. His life needed to display proof that he was new person.

For me, some of the greatest proofs that God has used have been the things that He was able to do in me. For instance, the fact that my wife and I even wanted to go to a Bible study was a bit of a miracle. Then where we had previously not been attending church at all, we found ourselves attending Bible study three nights a week along with regular services and looked forward to each one. Another thing God did was change my speech. The kind of words that once came from my mouth, no longer had any place there. He proved He was a healer to me when He healed my foot. And the list goes on and on.

So He not only proves Himself to us, but He also proves Himself in us if we are willing. The thing that we need to do from time to time is check our hearts and see if our lives prove the greatness of God. Just as it was not enough for Nicodemus to acknowledge that Jesus came from God, neither is enough for us to say we are Christians. There should to be some proof. Since Jesus demands proof from us, would He require any less of Himself.

The book of acts tells us that Jesus was with them confirming His Word. If Jesus is still alive, and we know that He is, is it so bad to expect Him to still be doing now what He did then? Remember, we are not asking Him to prove Himself so that we will believe, we are asking Him to do His word because we believe. He is glorified when we speak His word and then He performs it. He really loves it when we tell people about it after He does it! Scripture tells us that God watches over His word to perform it. God has always loved to amaze people. So I say, “Go ahead God and amaze me more everyday.”
