PROVE IT
O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth...(Psalm 8:1 NKJ)
As I began to pray recently I declared this Psalm to the Lord. As quickly as I said, “how excellent is your name in all the earth,” He said, “Prove it!” I did not know if He meant I should prove that was how I really felt or what. I asked how I could prove it. After all God knows my heart and He knows me better than I know me, so my first thought was that I had to do something to prove it.
However, it was not that He wanted me to do something to prove to Him that I felt that way about Him; He was telling me to prove that His name was excellent in all the earth. I believe He was telling me that He is more than ready to confirm the fact, but it is up to us to prove Him faithful. Believe me, I know that sounds a bit out there and I am trying to gather it all in myself, but the truth is; it is God working through man that makes disciples.
Miracles will attract people, only the Spirit of God working in and through people keeps them. Think about it. Jesus had many different followers over the years of his ministry, but he kept a few close to prepare them. He told them that it would be best for Him to leave because He would send the comforter and He would dwell in us. With Him in us, we can prove the excellence of His name.
We are all called to do this, but it is up to us to answer that call and accept the challenge. Jesus came to lead many sons to glory, and He has called us to do the same. I know it is hard to imagine that God wants to work in us in this way. We think that if that were the case He would just make it happen. But if He just makes it happen, people do not see things the way He wants them to. Remember Jesus was the example of God in flesh and we are to be like Him.
People already think that God does what He wants when He feels like it, but His word says that we are to choose life. As we accept the call to prove how excellent God is, people have the opportunity to see how up close and personal He is.
God does not want us to live on a spiritual roller coaster. He wants us to experience continual proof of His presence. As we experience it, it will be revealed to others. The question is do we have the confidence to go out and prove how Excellent His name is in all the earth.
That means in every place and in every circumstance, He wants us to prove that He is excellent and able to perform all that He has promised. We have a responsibility to show the way to the lost and feed those who are hungry for the one true God. Isn’t it amazing that He has entrusted us to prove that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek it?
