PURE, CLEAR, AND SINCERE

The purpose of my instruction is that all the Christians there would be filled with the love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and sincere faith. (1 Timothy 1:5 NLT)

I am certain that no matter how pure, clear, or sincere a Christian may be, there are many who will just plain reject the message any way. I am just as certain that there is a multitude of people out there who are just waiting to see this kind of love in action. According to scripture this is the purpose of God’s instruction. This is good news for Christians and non-Christians alike. To the Christian is says these things are ours, and to the non-Christian is reveals God’s intent, whether they have seen it in action or not.

Who truly has a pure heart? Well, God says that His Word has purified us. Just as He spoke the worlds into existence, He also said that faith in Jesus would purify us. We may not always act so pure, but we can keep moving into that place with God. There are so many Christians that have never understood that being pure is not some unreachable goal. It is in fact part of the package God has given us. We need only to walk in it.

We can also have a clear conscience. It does not matter if others remember all our sins; God forgives and cleanses us. And as long as we are faithful to confess, He is faithful to forgive. Paul was quick to point out that he had been the worst of the worst. He was doing everything he could stop the advance of the good news, even seeing people killed and jailed. Still he had a clear conscience.

It has been my experience that there are also many folks out there who hope faith works. They sincerely want it to work out the way God says, but they are not so sure it can be all that it is cracked up to be. Many get caught up in trying to make it fit into a logical mold, and all that does is open the door to a wreck.

Sincere faith is faith that is sure. It is faith that enables a person because they know who they are and Who they are in. Sincere faith comes as a result of trusting that God can do all that He says and that they in turn can do all that He says they can do, and be all that He says they can be.

The realization that God has purified our hearts causes love to grow. How could we not love someone who can take our wicked heart and make it pure? If you have never thought of your heart as wicked, you probably have not yet met Jesus. If you don’t recognize that even now there is room for improvement, you have probably stopped growing in love.

God says that those who are forgiven much love much. The joy of a clear conscience moves us even more into that love, and produces sincere faith. Sincere faith spreads the love of God. Sincere faith is not concerned with spreading religion. Sincere faith wants the world to know and love Jesus, and loves every one who does.
