PUT IT TO WORK

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you head from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:9 NLT)

God wants us actively engaged in our relationship with Him. If we have a relationship, we need to put it into practice. One of the earliest songs The Holy Spirit gave me said, “Now is the time, make up your mind. Give your life to the Lord.” Those are simple words, but they have a complex meaning! Actually, those words are simple instructions for constructing a relationship. It occurred to me that it is very possible for people to feel sorry for their sins and ask Jesus to save them and even come into their hearts, without ever giving their lives to the Lord.

Just like anything in life, the more you love it the better you do it. We all know that some things are harder to keep at than others. There are some things that we think about and then forget or leave till later and later keeps getting later. Our relationship with God is one thing that is easier to put off than it is to keep going, but the more we practice the more the desire for Him overrides the temptation to let up.

I recently gave up on an air compressor that quit on me. I bought a smaller one to get me by. It worked well enough, but then a larger better one went on sale, and I bought it. It is still in the box in my garage. I just happened to mention the old one that quit to someone and from that conversation I got the idea that maybe I could fix it. Yesterday, I decided to try and fix it and guess what, there were a couple of hoops to jump through, but it is working.

I nearly hauled that compressor to the dump a few times. I offered to give it to a person who probably would have fixed it a lot sooner, but they were not interested. We need to guard against quitting in our walk with God. I read recently about a poll that a large percentage of pastors give up, and a large percentage of those who don’t give up, think about it often. My thought was that if they give up, how do the people feel? I cannot ever remember even thinking of such a thing. I need to pray more for pastors!

Followers of Christ, need to realize that the world depends on us. Our prayers and our taking a stand for what its right is the only thing keeping this world going. We are the ones who God has called to humble ourselves and pray and call for our land to be healed. I know that people around the world are praying for America to be restored because they need us to lead.

So, let’s get to work. Let’s give our lives to the Lord. He has promised that He will add everything to us if we will just seek Him first. Put what we know is right to work. It may be that you have been like the old compressor sitting in my garage and not producing like you know you should. Let this word fix that. That compressor was just waiting for a boost. I know compressors do not think, but the point is, it had everything it needed if someone would do something.

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. If we believe in Jesus, we have all the working parts, we just need to put them to work. Give your life to the Lord. Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord!
