RAISE YOUR CUP
What can I offer the Lord for all that He has done for me? I will lift up a cup symbolizing my salvation. I will praise the Lord's name for saving me. (Psalm 116:13 NLT)
There is nothing greater that we can do to show our thanks to the Lord than to walk in what He has given us. We are to walk in the fullness of our salvation! This raising of the cup in not just a ritual performed when we meet. This cup is like a banner. The cup we raise in communion is in remembrance. This cup is a cup of celebration and love. It is a cup displaying what the Lord has done.
Hey, we were facing death and God saved us! The Psalmist was in a battle when he cried out to the Lord and Lord rescued Him. He was so grateful that He could not control the power of his love for the Lord. So he lifted his cup to declare this great thing the Lord did for him. He waved the power of God like a banner. He declared that he would keep all his promises to the Lord in the presence of the people. In other words, people would see what the Lord has done.
How wonderful it is when we enter the Lord’s rest. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I end up outside of that place. The things around me stack up and I am anything but rested. I may be able to contain it from the outside, but inside I am in need of the rest that only God’s presence can give. This is time to raise the cup and consider how good God has been to me. As I do this, it is like a cool breeze on a hot day! His peace washes over me and praise comes rushing out of me. Oh Lord. I raise my cup to your goodness.
He not only saved us from death, but He promises to keep our eyes from tears and our feet from stumbling. Yes, weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning. This is God’s promise. We need to lift our cup in the midst of the storm and declare that our victory is in His salvation. It is not coming. It has already been won! We simply need to run to the right spot. I will lift my cup to the victory God has provided in every situation. May we never forget the promise that we will walk in the Lord’s presence as we live her on earth! (verse 9) Now that should make you to want to shout! It is not way out there in the distant future that we walk with God. It is in the here and now. In His presence are pleasures and joy forever more. Why would we want to wait for that?
At weddings and other occasions, you see people raising their cups in a toast. They make a declaration. What can we offer the Lord for all that He has done? What can we offer the Lord in order to receive His promises and walk in this salvation? We can raise our cup and declare His goodness. We can raise our cup and declare His healing. We can raise our cup and declare His faithfulness to protect and provide for us. We can raise our cup and thank Him that we know nothing is impossible for Him. Lift up your hands and you will see that it forms a cup to the Lord as well as a funnel for His blessings to flow into! Praise the Lord.
