REACH
He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, "Lord, now I can die in peace! As you promised me, I have seen the Savior you have given to all the people." Luke 2:28-31 NLT)
Just as Simeon took the child, Jesus, in his arms, so we must reach for Jesus in every aspect of our lives. Most times that involves more than a reach. Many times it is more like a stretch for us to enter into the Good News of the Gospel.
We are told that Simeon was filled with the Holy Spirit and he eagerly expected the Messiah to come. When Jesus came, Simeon knew it and he reached for the child and praised God for doing just as He had promised. Simeon had no doubt told people that God had promised him that he would live to see the Messiah, and no doubt many doubted what he said. I can only imagine what they had to say after he told them he was ready to die in peace because he had not only seen the Messiah but he had actually held Him in his arms!
You may as well accept the fact that if you reach for the promises of God, you are going to find yourself lonely at times. Don’t let that stop you. Don’t stop reaching. Don’t stop believing. Jesus is always close. He does not stand just outside your reach to torment you.
This scripture says that Simeon took the child. He saw the Messiah and grabbed Him. I think we was so excited and so full of the presence of God that nothing could keep him from doing what He did and no one wanted to stop him.
When we are so focused on our relationship with God that everything revolves around Him, there will be no stopping us either. We will know that all things truly are possible with God. Most of us are more inclined to hesitate that we are to reach. Unless God dumps something on us, we tend to see everything as just out of our reach. At times it seems like things are getting closer and the next thing we know it looks like they have been moved far away again. Hey, it is going to take some effort sometimes!
God wants us to be like Simeon. He wants us to eagerly expect Jesus to show up. Remember, Jesus is the Good News! No doubt, everything was not perfect in Simeon’s life, but his eager expectation of seeing the Messiah kept him seeking. When he saw what he had been waiting for he took it.
This is the season of giving! Jesus gives year round. Simeon said the he saw the savior God had given to all the people. The first thing we all need to do is make sure we have received that wonderful gift of salvation. After that, if you want to know how to receive all the rest of the good news, just watch little children as you offer them presents. The truth is, all of us are happy to take the presents with our names on them, but children will take them all if they can get them. Are you a child of God? If so, reach! It is all for you.
