REACHING THE SPOT
Jesus asked, "Do you finally believe?" (John 16:31 NLT)
In order to be saved, a person must come to the place where they believe they have a need for salvation. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit convicts people of their sins. A person convicted can then change from unbelief, which the worst sin, and begin to believe. God has reserved that spot for every single person. The truth is, our lives are like a mine field, filled with opportunities to believe and most of us have stepped on several before we actually finally believe! Once we have reached that spot, it is God’s intention that our life become a daily adventure filled with the spots that meet our every need!
Have you every watched people on a scavenger hunt, or children searching for hidden presents? Even if it appears that they are wandering aimlessly, one thing is for certain; they are expecting to find something! When children are really small, we will sort of move them to the spot and even point the thing out for them. Once they spot it, they are so excited and of course we rejoice even more over their excitement. As they get older, we stay back and give them hints. With time the need for hints gets smaller and smaller. However, if they search for long and do not find it, they are quick to come asking for directions. No matter what the process requires, they are happy to find them and we are happy that they are happy.
Do you see anything familiar in this picture? Do you believe that this could be how God does things? Do you believe that there are spots out there that you have never found because you never looked? How often do we pray and then never move to find the spot where the answer is? Didn’t Jesus tell us that if we would seek we would find?
I often think of the things that really are of little worth that I will search for and even after I have declared I am not going to bother looking anymore, I find myself looking one more time. Have you ever done that? Then why is it that we will pray about something and not put one bit of effort into receiving the answer? Most of the time people will pray and not really expect anything. If they have learned to expect, quite often they stop expecting shortly after nothing happens. We have been conditioned to think that God must not want to answer that prayer. Where does that conditioning come from, I wonder?
My hope is that we can all cast those thoughts down and finally believe that God has littered our path with blessings and answers to our prayers. Romans 8:25 tells us that we must wait patiently and confidently for the things we do not yet have. We must first believe that the promise is true and that it is there. Then like children we must be willing to listen to the hints. If we still have not found it, we must be willing to ask for more understanding. No child will leave something hidden. And no child of God should leave any promise from their father. We should be determined to get to the place that God has provided. Just imagine how excited He is when we keep searching and finally arrive. He rejoices over our joy. Do you believe this? Places are waiting for you!
