READY
For I am ready to set things right, not in the distant future, but right now! I m ready to save Jerusalem and give my glory to Israel.(Isaiah 46:13)
When I read this, I thought, “Wow, God is always ready!!” Did He get to do what He wanted to do for Israel? The answer to that is yes, on many occasions. In fact, He has never ceased to hear His people Israel. People have hated them because of the way God has given them favor. Because of the success they experience, many have persecuted and murdered them. The day will come when no one will touch them again. They will always be special to God.
Now what about those of us with the New and better covenant. Don’t forget that ours is a better promise. In verse 9, God says, “And do not forget the things I have done throughout history, for I am God–I alone! I am God, and there is no one else like me. We need to remember what God has done for those who are faithful to Him, as well as what has happened to those who are against God.
When we think of what God has done, it will put things in proper perspective. When He says no weapon formed against you will prosper. You better believe that He can take care of your enemies. When He says He will supply your needs, you better believe that He is able to do abundantly above and beyond any thing that you can hope or imagine.
The question we have to settle in our hearts is whether we believe that He really means what He says. If we say yes we believe it is all true, then we need to expect God to fulfill His promises. There are a lot of things in life that can and will disappoint us. But God says that whoever trusts Him will not be ashamed. In other words, if God says it, and we stand on it, He will not disappoint us. I know we have all prayed and things did not go our way. I am not attempting to explain that. I only know that God says He is ready now. He is a now God, and so I am going to believe Him in the now.
As a rule, people establish what the outcome of something will be, based on what has happened previously. No one believed that man would ever fly, until someone did it. Then others believed it was possible and worked with it until we have put people on the moon and brought them back. We think nothing of sending the space shuttle out and having it come home. The same can be said of the computer world and just about anything else. Man has actually begun to think they can do anything. And in fact they are doing pretty well, but we still have not made a light bulb that is as good as sunlight!
If man can do so much, how much more can God do? When does God want to do it? He is ready now. We need to believe all that He wants to do, and then ask. Does He want all the hungry to be fed? Does He want everyone to be saved? Does He want anyone to suffer the way people are suffering around the world? Can we do anything to help? These are all questions for us to settle in our own hearts, but no matter what we decide, God is ready.
