READY TO INHERIT
Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God's promises...(Hebrews 6:11-12 NLT)
Have you ever started a project and worked diligently at it and then as you were getting closer to the end you just wanted it to be over and were tempted to just finish it without quite the care that you started? You know, when you started it was about perfection and gradually it was good enough as long as you were done. To be honest, I find that to be a frequent temptation as I do some things; when it comes, I do my best to make even surer it is right.
Well, it is most important that we do not let down our guard in our press toward our inheritance in the Kingdom of God. It seems there are many things that God could have been put in this verse, but the Lord made loving others the biggest example.
Perhaps it is because it is one thing that we can easily become dull and indifferent about. We can move from loving to critical in a heartbeat. And have you ever noticed that it is easier to follow the trail of criticizing that it is to follow the loving trail. When we start to criticize we can go on and on in our mind without saying a thing. If we decide to love we can just leave it that without imagining anything else or how to do it better etc.
The truth is we are only able to perfect love with the help and guidance of God. It is God who guides us. It is God who reminds us when we have lost that loving, giving, and forgiving feeling. It is total dependence upon God that keeps our eyes on the prize of His promises.
If we have even a little understanding of how wonderful God is, it will sustain us and drive us as long as we will respond to the truth. I was singing to the Lord about how worthy He is of praise and I suddenly I was asking Him to please help us see how worthy He is. From one moment of telling Him I went to a sense of I really have no idea!
Please understand that I do have a little idea, but the truth is, we only know a part of it and every part I find makes me realize that it is still just a little part. He truly is beyond our understanding. He is greater still than we will ever realize until we see Him face to face. He gives us the smallest glimpses and they are too amazing to totally comprehend. It is those glimpses that are intended to keep us moving toward Him.
Oh my friends; we must never let our hunger and desire turn into spiritual dullness and indifference. We must keep the gift that was given us in Christ stirred up. We really just need to pay attention to our words and thoughts and make sure they are spreading abroad the Godly love that is given to us in the power of the Holy Spirit. Let that be the driving force in our preparation for the inheritance that God has promised. Get your share every day.
